hey i have a 98 sunfire with the steering wheel audio controls i was wondering how to get those to work with an aftermarket stereo
did the cavs ever have stereo controls on the steering wheel? if so what years?
I also have a '98 Sunfire and am using one the units (SWI-X) shown in the link Brad shared. It controls a Pioneer deck via IR. Works like the proverbial charm and has been very reliable.
It was easy to program; the "trick" in getting it to work consistently was the placement of the IR emitter. The best approach in our cars is to have the emitter right below and about 2-3 inches in front of the deck face. That can be easily and unobtrusively accomplished by threading the emitter cable up under the console, with it's top poking through the channel at the front of the shifter panel where it the pointy part meets the console (there's just enough play in that spot there to make room for the emitter, which is held securely by the friction of the panel pushing up against the console). In my car you don't even really notice the emitter, since it is dark and sits down in the depression made by the channel (I'll see if I can post a picture)
