I was wondering, after spending all this time and money on the car for boost, everyone always says, "That will help the engine runlonger". Now I understand you are putting a lot of strain on the engine with boost, but who has been running longest (Mileage and time). Turboed or SC? I only lasted I think 3K with the GM SC before I blew it up, but that was my fault. Thats why
How long have people been boosted, and whats your secret? Fuel set ups and stuff.
Thanks
Chris

Brett CoHagen. First consumer to have the LD9 supercharger. He's probably closng in on 90,000 boosted miles now.

waht about the FAMED REAPER isnt that still running strong and like the 1st turboed J-body??????????
Thanx Charles
i just hit my 1 year anniversary on april 26th.. not the longest but its been pretty long
LE61T PTE6262 Powered
I just hit my 1 year anniversary with the RSM blower on May 2nd boosted at about 70k, almost 90k on it now to my knowledge im the highest mileage boosted eco
1989 Turbo Trans Am #82, 2007 Cobalt SS G85
I've been boosted since late 2002.
I had nitrous for 6 months before that.
I have gone through 3 motors though. All of them to faulty parts or a newb who didnt know how to tune a car yet, haha.
"Growing old is mandatory. Growing up? Definitely optional."
i got 2 years on my gm s/c. roughly 12k miles.
how i didnt blow it up on a FPR and HO injectors for a little bit of that time i dunno.
Time wise, Brett's the longest on the GM charger, the Grim Reaper is the longest turboed.
Actual boosted mileage? No clue.

The Reaper still runs, but has a issue. We are un sure what it is. I went through a divorce this past year. When this happened I parked it and have not messed with it. We first thought a spun bearing, but after working on a couple LD9's with spun bearings we realize it is not that. Now leanging towards a shattered lifter. Not sure, but hope to find out soon. When we got the Reaper it had a blown head gasket and sat for about a year until we got it. We put a head gasket on it, and then have ran it for about 2 years with no issues (other than tuning), until this current one. Also so people know the motor is not stock, it was built by the previous owner.

I have been boosted for over 3 years now... no major issues and have put atleast 30-40K on it......

I'm nearing 26K on my turbo setup and haven't had a problem yet. Put over 200 1/4 passes on the car in addition to the mileage too.
I used to race cars, now I race myself.

Even before the Reaper was in your hands, it had a ton of problems...
I think the car had only seen the light of day at a drag track during the summer of either 2002 or 2003 for a couple runs down Milan Dragway. The best time Travino (pardon me if I didn't spell his name right) could pull out of it before pulling off of the track and heading directly home was between a 17 and 18 second quarter mile run.
I'm not implying the car wasn't perfect at a time (I don't know if anyone other than Jim could say if it was or wasn't), but it has had plenty of problems due to the engine build and turbo system.
Brett's car has had no problems due to the engine itself or the supercharger. Granted, Brett has destroyed a couple of things on the valvetrain due to a stuck nitrous solenoid, but I don't think that should count considering it had nothing to do with the reliability of the engine itself or the supercharger.
I can say without a doubt that Brett's car has more boosted miles on it than the Reaper has just due to the history of both cars. Ian is right though about Jim's car having a turbocharger the longest provided you're only talking about the 1996 up model years. To my knowledge, it is unknown whether or not a consumer turbocharged a 2.3 quad 4 equipped 1995 3rd gen j-body.
Anyone know of ANY generation consumer j-body that was boosted prior to 2000 except for Jim's (now John's) Reaper and the GM prototype cars?

I would have to say the first person that bought a turboed Sunbird!
Someone look that one up for us.

I know of cars that was boosted before then, but no longer have the boost.
You are correct Jim had a lot of issues with the Reaper. From my knowledge the car made a few track runs. Only one after the built motor which gave him a 14.4 or 14.5 (Per Jim). I think the biggest issue is the car was never tune (except for When SpeedCraft first installed the turbo kit). It put down 227WHP. I saw the dyno sheet at SpeedCraft back in the day. Once the motor was rebuilt I do not believe the car was ever tuned. Also you are correct in the miles the Reaper has had on it. The car now only sits with 58k (roughly). We got it with 48k, and the built motor only had about 800 miles on it at that point.

Yeah, you're right. I don't know what I was thinking. However, Rocky's car was turbocharged after the Reaper. There's proof in the form of pictures out there on the internet somewhere.

I was at the track with Jim Sept. 29th 2001 when he ran his car. This was on his "built motor" running 4 psi non-intercooled. He made two passes, first a high 17 second run and next a low 18 second run. He was very upset with the results and immediately left the track after the 2nd run. Despite what he told you, those are the facts.

Thanks for the date Jeremy. I'll see if I can find the pictures I took of his runs. I meant to look them up, but couldn't remember the exact date.

I'm aware of that day. He told me (of course I have nothing to back this up) that he was at the track twice.
What I do know is also on 4psi with a blown turbo to manifold gasket the car ran 14.9 with me driving it last year. Not as good as I hoped for, but not all that bad either considering it is non-intercooled and low boost. Truly does this all matter on this topic? No. It has beeing turboed the longest, but is no where near close to having the most miles boosted. I know a couple Ecotecs with way more mile boosted.
