Help me T/S this problem please...

Hey all...

I'd like to give you a description of my current setup and a problem I am having, and we'll see if you can possibly help me and others who may be having similar problems..

97 2.4 - T3 super 60, Cartech FMU, Accell Adj. FPR, Ford Brown Top injectors, Innovate Wideband, Heated Primary o2 sensor, o2 simulator, SAFC2. Fuel pressure gauge tapped right into the fuel rail, inline Whinebro fuel pump.

Now, before I begin- I KNOW the SAFC is not a very good tuning tool, and I think I'm finding that out real quick.. I already have the HP tuners software on order- but I'd like to get this car running almost somewhat half decent, and I should be able to.

I got the base fuel pressure set around 28psi- With the vacuum line removed from the FMU- the fuel pressure jumps to around 50. So, at atmospheric pressure, the FMU should be kicking the pressure up to 50 psi. The small screw is only a few turns in- so the ratio is probably still pretty low.

At idle, cold startup- the car surges a little bit- But by using the SAFC2- I can get a half decent idle AFR. The problem is- As soon as I give the car the tiniest little bit of gas- the AFR shoots down to 9 and the car misfires and basically dumps gas out the exhaust. My automatic idles around 650. If the car sees even like 800/900 rpm, It goes pretty damn rich. Anything other than 650 rpms, the car is insanely rich, all the way up to 3k or more.

Ive got the SAFC setup to pull almost -50% @ 800 rpms, and 1000 rpms- but it doesnt seem to make a difference. However, If I adjust the 800 rpm fuel @ idle, it definately seems to work to give me a good AFR @ idle. But, a hint of the gas pedal- and it's right back in the 9's.

I know the plugs are fouled pretty good now, but even when they were brand new, and after I pulled and cleaned them all up- car runs like crap. The fuel pressure in the rail does not really change when I give it gas- but the car is dumping fuel. I am running NGK TR6's. Im going to have to p/u a few more sets w/ the way its running right now.

I can't seem to figure out why the car is doing this-- I know theres only so many things it could be- but Im getting frustrated.

I know I will get this car to run good, no matter what it takes- but I can't even seem to get it out of the garage. If i put it in reverse or any gear other than park- the car will stall- I have to keep the revs up a little bit to keep it from dying.

Any input or ideas are extremely welcome. I'm trying to avoid going full standalone.

Thanks much

Yeah, unfortunately the only thing that will help you is HPT, even my 320's would stall out no matter what I did with the SAFC and my FPR, and pour black smoke ou t the gail pipe and run in the niens.

Btw, if i'm typing bad, its cuz e'm kinda drun

Weak.

I was kinda hoping to get something going... I was thinking something might be wrong w/ the vacuum or something- But I went through and took my time w/ this car- Im pretty sure its right.

On a brighter note... The car sounds amazing- I just havn't driven it since December & its making me crazy driving the other sh*tbox.

when it's idleing adjust your base pressure to see if it helps... my car idles 370's like no problem.. no safc2 either...

if it helps by turning your base down some more do that and adjust with the safc 2 and fmu for higher rpms.....

thats my advice bro..

keep turning down base until it idles, and adjust for the loss of fuel via rising rate and safc2 for the higher (boost filled) rpms.

@ idle, the ratio is good- right around mid 14's-- As soon as I step on the gas even just the tiniest little bit- the car goes pig rich.

I just don't see how the car is dumping so much fuel as soon as I step on the gas. The fuel pressure in the rail does not increase @ 800 rpms.

I'm gonna try to turn the base pressure down to 20 or so-- then, If I need to- try to richen it up @ idle if the car has trouble running..

We'll see-- its very frustrating, but I know I'll get it soon.

red devil.. have someone lowering the idle pressure as you give it some gas..

what cc are the injectors?

where are you located again?

They are ford brown tops.. 370 cc's I believe.

I live in Ridley Park, PA- Probably a little over an hour south from you...

I will set the SAFC to %0 at 800 rpms, and turn the base fuel pressure down some- But I think if the pressure was too low- the injectors might not spray correctly.

I'm down the shop playing with the car pretty much everynight- so we'll see.

Weird. On my 2K I could idle Green Tops stock fuel pressure with -50% correction. Then I again, I had the S/C reflash, maybe that was the difference.

O noes!

That reflash probably helped you alot... Lets the engine adjust for the 310cc that the GM charger uses.

I couldnt really get the fuel pressure to go below 20 @ idle- I wouldnt wanna put it any lower anyway.. When the car is cold- it runs pretty rich, but after it warms up, it leans itself out a little bit- still rich though... 11's, 12's..

I guess I will have to wait until the HPtuners software arrives...

However- Im wondering if possibly the 02 sensors are throwing the engine off some- I have a heated one up front & the 02 simulator for the rear, but no CEL's for 02 sensors.
