The Thread Everyone Was Waiting For.. QBE DEAD

Well idk what the problem is as of now, was getting on the highway NOT IN BOOST chillin doin like 60 go to shift to 5th, put the clutch in and the motor shut off.. weird I thought let the clutch out to start the motor clutch screamed as it grinded against the flywheel and pressure plate.

No Booms, no bangs, no clouds of smoke, no puddles of oil, no loud noises nothing

Right now we cant get the car to roll in gear at all just rocks back and forth like its an automatic. All the plugs are fine I see no damaged pistons when I look in the motor.

I swapped between 2 ignitions no change, when I try and start all I hear is a clunk like the starter hits the flywheel but can't turn it..

We have three hypothesis

1. Flywheel bent/cracked
2. Clutch and/or pressure plate went (although from the little look I took everything looks ok
3. Engine seized

Engine may have seized from the powder coated parts I put on, there was metal sand falling out of the valve cover, I called the place they said rinse it once or twice and I will be ok. I let the valve cover soak in Dawn and water after rinsing it 4 or 5 times, then rinsed it after it sat 3 or 4 more times. That is my only idea.

Dipstick shows a good level of oil but no swirls in the oil or anything, haven't drained it yet though.

At this point I cannot even look at it, I flipped and ripped off a sideskirt and through a ratchet and socket into my hood. idk whats going on, but if the motor is gone QBE will come back stronger then ever

yea sounds like it something binding the flywheel, is there an inspection hole on getrags if so check there, maybe a loose flywheel bolt. i would think if it siezed up it would of broke or bent a rod out the side of the block.

We cant see much through the inspection hole because the car isnt on level gound so we can jack it up well. and I am one person my helper left so i cannot push it myself. But he said he didnt see anything wrong at the time. The clutch, clutch pedal are in working order

Sorry to here about your problems Phil, i hope you find the cause of your problem. Pulling off the starter at least to look at what you can see of the flywheel might be a simple next step.

On a side note, the very post i read before i clicked on this one had this in it, lol.

I think you people cant drive and continously smack the limiter or something!

Your day will come...

Sorry man, i just couldn't resist.

I know this is a totally different engine, but that's what happened to my RX-7, except i can start it, but even in neutral it won't roll or anything, but i know for sure it's my tranny, the only posible thing i can think of is it's something against the flywheel, you did say you heard a screech.....so that's prolly exactly what it is....

NEW SIG COMING SOON FOR 07'!!!

Before you guys go and shoot at QBE, he said he was "NOT IN BOOST".

Last time I checked these were not direct parts of a turbo system..
1. Flywheel bent/cracked
2. Clutch and/or pressure plate went (although from the little look I took everything looks ok
3. Engine seized

Therefore, this could have happened on a naturally aspirated motor. All of those possibilities are not necessarily a result of the boost.

(This was to argue Skilz post.)
Basically, I'm defending QBE and asking everyone else to back off.

Forgot to add..

QBE, when you figure out what it is, make sure you let us know. I hope it goes well for you.

Thanks man for defending me, but I would like to keep this post civil, I did act arrogant and in someways deserve a shot to the arm.

This motor going is NOT a result of the turbo system that I know for sure, if the motor is seized I know why and well if the flywheel or clutch or something is gone I also know why

from what qbe says does not sound like a broken engine, he said everything was fine then when he pushed the clutch in bam some thing killed the motor. I going to say something related to the flywheel clutch area, just pull the tranny and check it out. again there was No Booms, no bangs, no clouds of smoke, no puddles of oil, no loud noises nothing

if the clutch fuctions enough that you can push the pedal down and roll the car , and not hear any odd noises

then 90% the clutch and trans are fine , the noise you heard woulda been inside the motor

and 90 % you tossed a rod , or timing chain , something internal in the motor

pull the cam cover and drain the oil

a sucks to hear about the problems

i had the timing gear in my elcamino go 1 day , and the motor just stoped , like i shut it off , but it still cranked cause the chain was still on the gear , just no teeth on the gear
