Who Would Like A M62 On There 2200??
Wednesday, November 29, 2006 2:04 PM
Just As the question say.
I am seriously considering building a kit for the 2200. I am sure many of you don't know me. I had a Turbo 2200. (Ken2.2) for the longest time, but I sold it for my new baby
Well as always I get bored and I start making things, and I figured why not a Roots style for the 2200. I came up with what I would say is the Easiest and most innovative Design for the 2200 a while ago.

Now i have some Free time again and I was thinking about building it ( I have a spare 2200 in my garage still)
I am pretty good with my hands and I have some amount of skill with Fabrication. My questions is how many people would be interested in this for purchase? I am going to make at least 1 to show it can be done, but I was just wondering if there would be a market for this. Even a small one at that. lol

I have made a few thing for the J platform here before. Ie..Sub frame braces. Strut tower braces.

I am just curious as to what you guys think?

It would be nice to see but I'm going with a turbo setup on my 2200 so I wouldn't buy one but I'm a big fan of custom FAB. work so it would be nice to see your supercharger for the 2200! good luck with selling.

I know alot of 2200 guys go the Turbo route. Hell I did too. lol
I think this will most likely be a One of Custom Job. But I still think it will be fun to build and show everyone it can be done. Just the the M90 on the 2.4

Can a 2200 handle a m62 without building up the engine? I'm pretty sure a 2200 can't handle 10psi without building it up. I would love to see it done but it's going to be an extreme amount, probably to the point where it wouldn't be worth it. But hey if your bored and you have the skills, DO IT

I ran 10 psi on my 2200 everyday just fine, and trust me my car was beat on too. lol And after you guys see my Design, you will see how affordable this will be too. Its Quite in-genius if I don't say so myself

i ran 12psi daily on my 2200, no problems. a few times i even went up to 15psi. granted psi is relative to restriction it matters how much air your actually putting into the engine.

I'd be very interested depending on price. I tossed the idea around of building a kit also, so it will be interesting to see what you came up with.

What are you going to do with the power steering?

There will be decent amount of interest but then as everyone knows the JBO crowd they would want the price at rock bottom.

Although I wouldn't mind seeing it Ken.

LowFire. Power steering will remain in the same spot.
You will see how I pull it off. I am going to be starting on the project soon. I just have to get my hands on a M62 from a bonnavile. I don't care if it works or not. I just need it for the Fab work. I am pretty sure I can get the 2200 around 200hp. And as for price, depending on how long it takes me and such. I will let you guys know later, but it will competitive with the Gm charger. I wouldn't say more than 1500.00 for everything. But don't Quote me on that.

That type of setup would require new manifold, and he said 'basic', so I'm assuming it will be remote-mounted. The only problem is the only decent room is by the downpipe, and blowers heat up enough as it is.

I would say that if it would put the 2200 anywhere near 200 hp and it was below $2000, you'd probably have a LOT of people jumping on it. Probably almost more requests than you could handle. Hell, now that my wife and I are making a bit more money (it happens when you both start a 2nd job), she might be interested sometime towards summer for her car. We were planning to do an N/A build but you really can't touch the cost of building the engine and all for what you're saying, even if it is a few hundred more than that.

Long story short - DO IT.

I would much rather see a setup with a new IM, rather than the garbage that was in P&M (please don't take offense Ken) with the Thunderbird SC.

Even with a remote one by the downpipe, the alternator would need to relocated as well

i am listening because this could save me the cost of swapping motors and supercharging that.

Ken if you were to seriously do this, since I am not too far way from your house i would be more than willing to drop by with my car to help with fitment, and as for the product,,,if you just made the mani and let people source the charger on their own you could have quite the following on ur hands if all goes through.

either way let me know when your going to start on the project, I'd deffinatly love to help out on this kind of project, granted i cant weld all that great i am very creative when it comes to stuff like this and i know how to turn a wrench. I'll send you a PM with my info.

Hope to hear from ya-Jeff

I was thinking about just making the Manifold and hardware bracket you need. and the People have to get there own S/Cer This keeps the crappy charger factor out of my hands. But I mean I am not sure yet on what I will do.

Jeff I would like to use your car as a test/fitment car. I am going to build the whole setup here on my Spare Motor in my garage, then all we will have to do is install it to your car. Tune it. and get some Vids for everyone on here to see. The more help I get the faster and easier it will be for me.

LowFire I know what you mean about a whole new manifold . This is along those lines. I would show you guys the design, but I want to keep it a secret as to try and surprise you guys.

Hey Ken while you're at it how about making a manifold for use 2.4 guys for the M62, seeing as I just won one on ebay from a Saturn Ion Redline, I'll need an intake made to bolt it on my 2000 Z24 2.4 motor. What do you say, can you do it!

2000 Z24 5spd header & catback for now.
