yep my ecotec 2005 engine blown!! i was having a big oil probleme for long time ago, i taught it was my turbo but i think it was a cracked piston! yesterday I was at 65mph, and my engine make a big boom and start running on 3 cylindre or so and big blue smoke come into the car and rear of the car! i'm sure this is a piston! i heard the stock piston were weak at the top ring... anyways i'm rebuilding it this week if i have time and money ! will show you some pic of the internals too
anyone ever had a similar problem with resonable boost ?? i use a t3/t4 t04e stage III at 8.5psi and i wasnt in boost when my engine broke! I wonder this wont happen another time!!!

a lot of ecotecs 2003+ blow piston ring lands...
so far all 2002 ecotecs throw rods....
but mine didnt go in boost.. it just seized due to oiling problems

that would be me. i was in boost a few minutes prior. running around 15-18 psi with 370s and a fmu and no tune. i knew it was gonna happen. but on my way back. i was just pussing alone and it let go

There's another guy I know who's not on the .org that has a turbo 2004 eco that cracked off a ringland, and he has MS and a pretty solid tune... that engine had already been through hell for a long time though back in the day before we realized certain eco ecu's has no open loop operation, and a few 75 shot nitrous runs before that. Just look at it as an excuse to upgrade to forged pistons and rods, assuming of course that the cylinders are ok.

i think its ring land because when it make the boom sound blue smoke comme front front of the car and it make a lot of compression into oil pan (oil coming out of the breefer on the head at idle) sound like a piston ... i have a 2005 ecotec engine 23 000 miles on it
i'm feel very bad i'm so unlucky with engine!! now i use a @!#$ty sunbird as my all day car
i will open the engien on saturday and show you some pic of the internal!
