Blackfire Build Progress 56k nono

I was getting rid if the car to get a new GTO but when it came down to signing papers and whatnot the dealership decided that rather then give me KBB trade on the car like we discussed, I was offered some free oil changes, I love being young and getting screwed. I kinda at that point decided that the ordeal of purchasing a new car wasnt worth it. Then some crazy family stuff came up later that day and now Ive (or maybe it was my wife..... anyway) decided keeping it and starting the rebuild Ive had all the parts laying around for 8 months. List of mods and parts are in my profile with the exception of balance shaft delete kit that Im not iron clad on yet. On to some pics, the tear down got cut a bit short because I kinda decided at the last minute I was bored and just kinda started pulling stuff off. I forgot to pick up a 10mm allen wrench for the timing tensioner. Tomorrow Im hoping to get the crank out and off to be balanced.
Started like this:

Supercharger and manifold off

Cam Cover off- What the hell is all this yellow stuff? The breather hose is full of it too.

Tensioner modified to accept the bigger tensioner pulley

Oil Pan dropped out

lil peak inside

Engine Parts screaming to be put on

Thats as far as Ive gotten. Im honestly not sure what to take pictures of, so if anyone wants to see anything specific just ask.

i wouldnt rebuild unless you had to honestly, hell if i get another j-body im gonna push her til she breaks, no need in rebuilding if the stock stuff isnt broke yet.

the yellow crap is coolant, you have a coolant leak somewhere.

NOT GOOD

when coolant and oil mix it makes that crap, and it will wear out your engine quick if you dont find the leak and fix it.

possible headgasket.

breaking a piston is ok, but a hole in the block would be a major pain I guess, that's why lots of people rebuild before to prevent stuff from breaking...

My wifeI have had the same buy a new gto debate over and over. We decided the hell with the dealership, finding a slightly used one is a much better deal and most used ones have very low miles anyway. Now we have decided to buy a house and can not afford to buy a gto. We will get one someday but for now it is cheaper to stick with what I have. Good luck with the build.

how do you get a coolant leak inside the motor and how would you even know where to look?

Can't wait to see it all done...followed the car since you got on here!

Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?

Why wait to break something if we know people are breaking rods and ring lands going any lower then a 3" pulley? You'd put cams a head and 2.6" pulley on your s/c and just wait to see if you could break something? Doesnt sound like a plan to me....

I figured it was a coolant leak but I wasnt sure. Hopefully all its just the head gasket.

the coolant leak could be anything from a bad headgasket, to a crack in the block or head. judging by the amount of coolant its a small leak, but still a leak. Proally the headgasket seeping, or somethign whong w/ the head.

You would wait to break something because i dont see the sense in rebuilding if there is no need to at the moment. Yes people are breaking ringlands and such but honestly the only person with the m62 that i've seen break parts is airtonics, i could be wrong but its not like its a huge problem as far as the m62 guys go, more of a turbo eco problem.

You made me sad when you said you were selling the 'fire, now you're not getting the GTO when I've finally accepted it. Bah...

that's because airtonics is the only one who went that far with the m62. power is power, whether from supercharger or turbo, and too much power breaks stuff... like I said, a hole in the block like airtonics is much worse than broken ringlands AFAIK

Could be just condinsation........ pull the dipstick, and take a peak at that..... alot of times it will build up on there as well..... check the coolant over flow, see what it looks like inside.

Have fun with the build.

Im having some issues getting the tensioners for the timing chain loosened. I cant get that plug on the front or the one in the rear. Dont I have to loosen them before I take the cam gears off the cams and drop the chain or does it not matter? I will be getting the balance chaft delete kit too so doesnt the chain have to come all the way off anyway? Im trying to do this without pulling the motor.

K, but can you answer the Q about the timing chain tensioners?

Update! Timing chain tensioner taken care of, head off, pistons out. I dont have a socket big enough for the crank pulley so Im stuck again. Good thing I almost never get a day off and I work at Menards. Ill have to pick a socket up tomorrow. Does anyone know what size it is? I searched, but I didnt find anything certain, 19 or 21mm? On to some more pics.
