2 Bar Map Sensor
Saturday, February 24, 2007 8:36 PM
I keep reading on different posts about a 2 bar map sensor, I know it's the map that can see boost, but I don't have one, and also don't have a check valve inbetween the manifold and map sensor. Is there some sort of tuning or performance advantage that I don't know about with having a 2 bar as opposed to the stock one?

If your computer doesn't know you're boosting, you can't adjust fuel accordingly. If you get a better MAP, you need the software to reprogram your stock ECU, or a stand-alone so that you can read from it correctly.

So what if I just put the 2 bar in, what will happen?

You will run VERY lean.

If I use the GM reflash for the s/c will that work?

not if your using it for your turbo..

Why not? How much air difference is there between my turbo set up and gm's s/c?

actually it wont change his fuel at all. he uses a fmu to add fuel per boost. our computer does NOT add fuel per map. it does it based on throttle. it will however adjust your timing. your comp adjusts timing per map.

getting a 2-bar map and just sticking it in would be a bad idea and wasted money. now, if you had HPT and you tuned your timing per boost with it, then that'd be a different story.

Sven you totally quarterloafed your computer..

Thanks all, I plan on getting the hpt or megasquirt eventually anyway. So from what I've gathered, the 2 bar map is only necessary when using computer tuning, but when using an fmu, it's not a necessity. Is this correct? Then I have a tie into another thread, about the flashing cel, what causes this?

good to know. So, when running HPT you have to create a table to scale pulsewidth/MAP?
