I honestly can't decide whether i want to turbo my ecotec or turbo my ecotec? and that reason is because i dont know much about either of them....Can anyone help with some pros and cons of both of these? Maybe make my decision easier? I would like to do one of these in the future, but i wanna learn more about it first. Thanks
well if the decision is either a turbo or a turbo, id go with a turbo......
now if ur talking a supercharger, then id go with a turbo.
It also depends on what ur looking for..... if ur looking for raw power and wanna build a street sleeper, by all means go with the turbo.
If u just want something a little bit quicker and more reliable, then go with the supercharger.

yea, a turbo is a good way to go... i would suggest learning about both in great detail before u start thinking about installing anything. forced induction isnt something you really want to mess around with untill you know what it does and how it works. either way you go im sure it will please you! good luck!!

I am taking the turbo route and while our application may be different just because it is complicated time consuming and obviously hard work not to mention expensive
....it is still fun if you like to enjoy things in the long run....it isn't impossible obviously have fun with it find out your preference and get goin as for me I have an extran long block to mess with in the garage but it wont be till next year when things will be coming together for now parts parts. and if you don't wanna chunk a motor before its time put things togerther before you beat them up
It cracks me up when people make the argument that turbo is where the big power is, and yet most people with jbodys rarly break 200whp with any given turbo kit and have loads of problems when NOT installed correctly.

well turbochargers are more effiecent, but don't kid yourself, superchargers can make tonnes of power and tonnes of torque. As far as reliablity goes.. I personally think it is up for grabs.

In my opinion, I believe reliability is in the users part. If you beat the crap out of your car with a f/i setup, you will probably have negative results in the end. Dont get me wrong, if you go about putting this on sloppy and half assed, this could also result in engine failure. I myself have just chosen the path of the supercharger the other day. My reasoning is the ease of install, the ease of a reflash, and costwise, the hahn stage 2 just wasnt in my price range.

I myself, when I first started looking into boosting my car I was going to take the turbo route. After getting my head wrapped around the idea, what was needed and the cost to do it, I had to rethink my plans. I wasnt really prepared to get "X" amount of engine work done and having no car to drive in the meantime. My path to the M45 charger kit was set at that point. Dont get me wrong, its a great addition to my LD9 motor, but a turbo would have been better. In the long run, the cost was easier to absorb in my wallet, and I enjoy driving the car even more. Gas on the other hand sucks, damn you boost.
My plans took 5 years before I actually did it, so I really researched both options to make sure that I wasnt going to spend my money on nothing. Since I've done the charger, a lot more options have surfaced that allow me to net even more power (water/meth, hptuners, etc.). I really liked the route I took and now my wallet is killing me once again.
I say do your research carefully and dont jump into it until you know exactly what you want and/or hope to gain from it.
