I presently own a 96' Z24 and would like to know of a company that provides and turbo kit for the 96' LD9. If that is not recommended, should I be looking at the RSM Supercharger kit. I know it is pricey, but I can't find any turbo kits....Please help.
Thank You,
Chris
Im sure someone can give u the part #'s to a good turbo setup..but as for most "turbo kits"..there mostly junk , and u could normally peice together one urself for cheaper and beter!
And if im not worng but i think there is a sticky thread with part #'s
You can buy the manifold off ebay and just make a custom turbo setup it would be chaper than that supercharger
a custom job tends to be cheaper and easier. and the manifold on ebay even has a 5 year warranty so thats an added plus. but dont put an ebay turbo in unless it is a true Garret or other name brand. A lot of them are not balanced well enough.

anyone have a link to the manifolds ur talking about on ebay? for the ld9 engines
thanks
Top Mount
Regular
the regular one is LISTED as for the ecotec engines, but the picture is of a 2.4 twin cam one. this is the guy that has the ones for the 2.4, just email him and im sure he could get you one no problem.
Yeah putting a kit together yourself is best. I would recommend not getting a manifold from the guy on ebay. His product is @!#$!!!!!! Put together @!#$ty looks @!#$ty.

it does really suck though, were dont have a very good market in terms of manifolds.
if you want to pay out the ass but want a quality manifold, talk to josh F, he cant get one thats freakn amazing.

So u could put together a turbo kit for less than the supercharge..BTW the supercharger is 1600.25 shipped ( i know casue i paid it )?????????????
I'm assuming your talking about the welded manifold, when you say it's "@!#$!!!!!!" . I have the cast iron top mount and it's ridiculously good quality for the money. I'm running a T3/T04E 50 trim .63 Housing and this manifold has been great so far....

The top mount is by a different person (or at least seller). The regualr one is by happy thoughts (seller), I would stay away.

ok, question... why do welded manifolds have such an issue with the welds cracking? ive often wondered this..
Aaron,
Yea I understand, but I don't think the supercharger will fit a 1996 LD9. The only supercharger I know of that fits this year is an RSM (now Z-Spec) and that set-up is $3,500.00
I also think that you git best bang for the buck, but when it comes to forced induction you are limited with a supercharger. I don't think you will ever be able to push 12 psi out of it if you decide you want more power...
Chris
welds dont exactly have high tensile strength, and heat also lowers tensile strength in the steel around the weld, therefore allowing cracks.

they need a "stress cut" which is a cut between each exhaust port. It is offered for $5 or something like that. What happens is the manifold expands alot and the plate is bolted to a water cooled head... which part do you think expands more??? there needs to be some room for movement. I had mine (both) cut, and I had 25k on the last and over 30k now. Now, if I could find my damn oil leak, I already redid oil pan gasket, and timing cover... oh well, I guess it is just a little bit.
