oil suposed to be here?

Ok well i know i ask a million questions but anyways..i took my turbo apart today to get the exhaust housing coated and came across oil where id think it shouldnt be but then again ive never taken apart a turbo. It could be cause this thing has been upside down and sideways through shipping and all that..but anyways its easier to explain with pics..

There was oil all in that area where is is machined and such..is this normal? they told me the turbo only has like 16miles on it..phil

check for shaft play.... i mean there will be a tiny bit but you can kind of tell when its too much... that would be the side that you would see oil leaking out if your turbo is shot..

Yea id replace the oil seals... rebuild kits aren't very expensive i just had to get one the other day. My seals and bearings took a @!#$ on me... And i don't believe you should have any shaft play at all? I know when i first got mine it didn't have any play. It was tight as could be. But unfortunately that only lasted for about 900 miles. lol.

I've personally never see a saab ecotec turbo get replaced. The only thing i've seen go bad on the mitsu and garret turbos is the air bypass valve (blow off valve) the diaphram likes to crack and not hold pressure.

could the oil just be from the way it was sitting in the box? I didnt see any oil on it till it was laying in a box at my house here...it does have atouch of side to side play but very little and the guys said it was off a car that had 16miles..i think imight take it to a local shop and see what thay say but i cant see how its dead considering ive read they last a very very long time.
