Wastegate question
Saturday, November 17, 2007 5:51 PM
I've been searching for a while now and haven't found any real info on this. I'm wondering how one would go about changing an internally gated turbo (older saab garret/airesearch) to work with an external wastegate. Would I just take off the flap at the downpipe and weld the hole shut? I'm a newb at understanding how wastegates work.

Either you wire the flapper shut, or you remove the exhaust housing (after the turbine housing) and put on a block off plate and weld the down pipe to that plate.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!

My turbo was internally gated, but I took off the exhaust housing and got a 5 bolt flange off ebay to weld my downpipe to.

Awesome. Now all I'm waiting for is the 2200 manifold from RD Fabs (If they ever finish it).
