well drove to work today saw a little steam coming from the right head light. poped the hood blower chewed through the rad hose. I then pulled the dipstick and found a milkshake. i called Ramp chevy and they they said they had to look at. the car is underwarranty so im hoping to god they cover it. the only thing is when i left the dealership when i had the charger installed they showed me that the zip tied the hose and that i should check it every thousand miles i did that but i guess i must hit a pothole and the zip tie must of broke. its my own dam fault i should have bitched when i saw that but i figured he is tech he knows what he is doing. but any way i guess the question is when these motors blow head gaskets do they just drain them put a new gasket on and call it day or when these motors go they go?
I had like 7 zip ties on my radiator hose. I had zip ties around zip ties just to make sure that didn't happen.
your smarter then me,take pity on me and send me your long block
It's in a junk yard in Little Rock. You're more than welcome to it....
some times i think J cars have black cloud hovering them.

You'd be surprised how many people prefer to continue driving with that milky oil rather than paying the money for a headgasket replacement, which they soon learn would have been a lot cheaper than the motor they now have to pay for
As for the OP, sorry bro. I can just imagine that overpaid engineer who gets paid $100K a year to come up with the idea to use a zip tie there, sitting back in his chair having a beer and a good laugh at your expense. Its really sad that an OEM manufactured kit includes solutions to issues that you could find on homemadeturbo.com....

Be damn sure to get the head checked for cracks and warpage, and ensure the block is true as well. My guess is you ran too hot and warped the head. A simple planing and a new head gasket should solve your problem.
And bitching to the tech initially wouldn't have helped, there's no real solution other than those dreaded zip ties. Mine have been on there coming up to five years now, haven't budged.

The engineer's fault?
I GUARANTEE you the General shot the engineer on that one and let the accountant make the decision...after all, a custom-made radiator hose is expensive...

what hose is being referred to here?
z yaaaa wrote:what hose is being referred to here?
It's the coolant hose or AC hose that runs next to the belt up top near the snout of the SC...well down a bit from the snout but the route of the belt from the snout.
I've zip tied mine back and have zip ties on top of zip ties!!
I check it ever so often and have some marks on my hose cover...nothing on the hose yet...but I check it I'd guess almost weekly!
Eh...old man with a Corvette now...it was bound to happen sooner rather than later right?
Wait wait wait wait and wait again.
There's something wrong.
The blower chewed the hose. That I understand.
The hose blew and you have milky oil? WTF. If the hose blew, the coolant goes OUTSIDE, not inside the engine.
Unless you never check your temp gauge.
Please explain cause a blown coolant hose will not send coolant in the oil.

Gilles, the coolant and oil don't intermix due to a ruptured hose, don't worry. Like I said in my post, and as you alluded to, he probably didn't notice the increased temp gauge and popped the head, causing the "milk".

I suppose I should have finished my thought
A blown headgasket doesn't kill the motor, an overheating motor and warping the head or worse does when they don't notice the signs, or care to keep up on checking.

I don't.. how does a supercharger chew a hose? The serpentine belt might... but the blower? o_O heheh

its the ecotec
the hose that loops around the snout of the blower
i check the zip they didn't break loose, so i don't know why it cut the hose
i live about a mile from work so alot of the time the motor never even reaches over 100 degrees
my to trip to work is about 15 minutes and i drive the 30 mph to work. cops are every where
the tech told me check it every thousand miles. the last time i checked was xmas day i drive about 20 miles a week it has been about 4 weeks.
I have about ten Zip ties running the length of the hose in that section of it where it runs close to the serpentine belt. If he only used one zip tie that will not cover the entire hose from possible rubbing as the belt does slap slightly under different loads so the entire few inches of that hose needs to be tethered away from the belt. In cold climates steel band really should be used as the zip ties become very brittle after being heated and cooled so much.

I was under the impression (and I'm sure everyone else was too) that it was the hose going to the surge tank. I can't imagine any reason at all why the upper rad hose got torn. It even comes with a protective sheathing so that inherent vibrations don't wear through the rubber. That's a weird one to say the least....any pics of this carnage?

no the car is at the dealer already this car still has the warranty and was installed by the dealer so i hope to god im covered if not how much does a head gasket job cost?
alot
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
dealer called no popped head gasket. the car is getting a new belt and new hoses.
what you should do is get SS hose cover and use some kind of metal strap to tie the hose back (like the straps they use for header wrap.
i dont care how often you check them....plastic zip ties arent going to give any signs that they are going to break...they just do.
