I have the stock 52mm TB on my 2002 Z24 LD9 with SC....
Is it worth jumping up to a 56mm from a 2.3L HO?
these should be easily interchangable right?
Will i see any performance gains with 4mm increase?
how large of a TB can be fitted on these? and how much difference would they make?
Id say the 2.3 tb is worth the $10 or more that you can get them for. Smg can bore your 2.4 out to 58mm, or if you get a 2.3 tb they can take it up to 60mm.

I used a 2.3 TB that was bored out to 60mm and loved it.
And where can i get a TB bored out? and what would this cost me?
What is a fair price for a 2.3L TB? and/or is there another vehicle that has a compatable but larger TB that could be used.
I'll stick with my FDP 62mm...it seems to do quite a fine job

a machine shop. and youd have to ask them yourself as far as price

Isnt there more to it than just drilling it bigger? dont you also need to have a larger throttle plate installed to cover up the bigger hole? I doubt any machine shop can do that.
WOW.... $200 bucks to have the TB bored out.... and you need to give them the TB to do it on.... That sounds expensive....
On a relatively beefed up setup... cold air intake, full 2.5" exhaust, SC, smaller pulley....
what kinda gains would be noticed at what sizes?
I can get a 2.3L TB for $50... adding 4mm to my current 52mm
so $50 for 56mm...
Or $160 to have mine bored to 58mm
or $210 to buy the 2.3L and have it bored to 60mm.
So the questions is really.....
are the gains from:
4mm worth $50
6mm worth $160
8mm worth $210
With a SC, i would think that the TB wouldnt be as much of a restriction. But maybe i am wrong.
$160 and $210 seems like ALOT of money.... especially when your not even getting a new part, just getting your old one back....
but if it is ALOT of performance, then well that is different....
And again, i cant help but wonder if there arent some other TB's out there from bigger enginers that could be bolted up real cheap.
Arent most all TB's the same basic thing? Or is there something special about ours that makes us stick with ours?
Now I don't have the exact way to measure it, but after installing my 62mm TB I noticed I was getting 1 extra psi on my boost gauge. I don't remember how much I paid, but it was in the area of 200+, I know RSM used to do it, they had a core charge that was returned to you if you sent them your stock throttle body. I believe they were charging upwards of 300+

Not worried so much about the price.... the question is "is it worth the price" in performance.
Will i bolt it on and drive around the block and be like "damn that is awesome" or will i need a dyno before i see results?
I know they are a good thing for NA cars.... but do they make that big of a deal on a SC engine?
I think it is definitely worth it for Boosted applications more so than an N/A application.. My butt-dyno didn't really notice any gain, and I don't have any dyno proof either, so I guess this answer is useless to you, lol, but like I said earlier, I saw a gain of at least 1 psi on the boost gauge after installing my 62mm TB.

Adding a larger TB will give you HP gains due to the fact you are bringing in more volume of air, but you will only see a difference on the dyno.
BTW, what is the size of the opening on the LD9 SC??

Opening is about 59.55 mm
Just measured it
i ran a rsm 62mm t/b on the s/c and loved it. bolted right up.
I run an RSM 62mm, snagged a deal ($100), seems to do its job.

just curious what is there to love about a part that only makes improvements on a dyno?
if it takes a dyno to notice the difference.... how much can you love it? and why?
I guess i tend to love parts that i can tell are there. My SC for instance... i love it, and am reminded of why i love it every time i step on the gas.
You're seriously fooling youreslf if you think you're ever going to feel a difference after bolting on any part that doesn't add 10whp at most. Even if you only gain 6hp (example only, real numbers obviously will vary) from a TB, I'd say that's still a solid investment. What does the s/c do? It crams more air into the engine, to make more power. What does a larger TB do? Allows more air to be crammed. To question it's worth is silly. Just shut up, buy one at least 59mm, and be happy.

Ken,
While I understand what you are driving at, you are over analyzing the situation. The performance of you car is the sum of the parts you invested. ( proper tuning included ) Just because the inaccurate "butt" dyno doesn't notice a gain, doesn't mean that there wasn't one ( or loss of hp ).
Optimally to promote smooth air flow you tbody should be as large as your SC opening. Same goes with port matching on intakes and exhaust manifolds

well look at it this way, GM thought the 180hp HO quad 4 needed a 56mm to breathe properly, your adding a ported head, HO cams a free flowing exhaust and a SUPERCHARGER but using a 52mm, more than likely your going to well over 180Whp so that tb has got to be a restriction.
obviously your going to benefit from a larger air valve.
