Right now I have 2.5" exhaust from the cat to the muffler and was wondering will it be ok to run the stock catalytic converter?Or should I just run with out a cat?I have a 03 ecotec with the saab turbo and the muffler is a tenzo R.
Whats the size of your downpipe are you running?
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
Brandoson is the one making it for me so I dont know yet.
DONT run without a cat...it will sound like ass and make loud annoying popping sounds when you decelerate. Not to mention it will sound like a can of bees you will want to drive your car into a brick wall. Stay with the cat.
Hamburger Helper..One Pound, One Pan, One Disfunctional Family!
My car with no cat did not sound like a can of bees and never backed fired. I ran 2.5" all the way with no cat and a N1 style muffler and it was really deep and throaty. You loose the bee sound when you actually run larger piping, not throw a fart can on your 1.75" exhaust that opens up to a 3.00" opening. I say either go hi flow with matching in and out of your setup or go no cat.
~Boost. Its what's for dinner!~
no one on this site can justify running no cat. get a hi flow cat.
does anyone notice the most misspelled word on here?
loose
which is really spelled "lose" for people who graduated 6th grade

i have not been running a cat for years. and now that im boosting, im not running one. the "can off bees" sound can be stopped by adding a resonator. the bigger the resonator, the less rasp you will get. as for the popping, each exhaust is different, ive never had mine backfire on me at all unless i had open header...

I ran open downpipe, until I finally pulled my kit off the car. Nothing like people asking if you car is on fire because they see flames under the car when it shifts.
Then can I just run with my stock cat for now?

tell that to the other million people that are doing the exact same thing, or the ones that hollow the cat out and put a pipe through it. tell that to all the NHRA cars that done even have exhaust. tell that to people that take their cars to the drag strip and run open down pipe. All the muscle cars and everyone else on this site who does not have one or has one hollowed out, or a pipe through it. Also talk to the companies that dump waste, or people that throw garbage out their window.
Now go hug a tree.
your the one i see talking about it. i also said that you dont have enough power to justify it. its not illegal for nhra cars to run with no cat.
and your dumb ass comments just prove my point. otherwise you would be defending why you did it to your cra and not pointing the finger at everyone else.
thats like pointing the finger at hitler..." i only killed one jew and hes killed millions.......go bother him"
the point is its wrong and you have no justification for doing it.
by the way Blackeco......i dont eat food, i absorb energy from the trees i hug

i have plenty of justification for doing it...
1. the more free flowing the better.
2. Another thing to go wrong (stock cat on the car plugged)
3. eliminates secondary o2
4. just plain old didnt feel like putting one back on.
5. its my car
6, ill do it to the rest of my vehicles as well just to irritate you
i did it because i felt like it. simple as that. tell you what ill make a post for you so you can whine and bi%$& about it to everyone else... it will be in off topic. cant do anything goes since your not even premium.
you want to complain go complain to everyone else on this site, im not the only one doing it and you sitting here talking about polluting the air, go get a prius...

turbos tend to burn up catalytic converters because of higher exhaust temps which is why lots of turbo guys remove them.
you WILL see a power loss with a cat installed. probably as much as 20hp for a car seeing around 10-15psi of boost.
cats are primarily to scrub emissions on start up. once the car is running at temperature, they do very little other than hurt exhaust flow.
NHRA cars don't run cats because they don't have to.. mufflers are optional in some classes as well.
i had no cat for the longest time, my car did not sound like a swarm of bees. the style of muffler usually effects that (fart cans being the worst) back firing has to do with tuning.
a cat converter is for passing emissions tests.. after that, they really have no place on a car. especially when they get plugged up.. thats really fun.

normal, every day living pollutes the environment much more than not running a cat. have you ever looked into how bad plastic is for the environment? yet i bet you use tons of plastic on a daily basis. so unless youre living a zero eco foot print life you dont have much to be complaining about
95+ Cavalier and Sunfire Convertible Service Manual! A must read for vert owners!
You will be fine running your stock cat. You can always get the ends cut off and the bigger diameter pipe welded to them so there is not a restriction as far as pipe size or a high flow cat later.
FORGET GIRLS GONE WILD WE HAVE GOVERNMENT SPENDING GONE WILD!
Im not going to be running any cats or @!#$tyass emissions on my truck. All the emissions control crap does is fail and is a huge pain in the ass to diagnose. 1969 FTMFW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i'll die before pollution is a problem...
/end care
let not all forget we have 4 cylinders ... yall should be talkin to the v8 guys that dont care about cats

actually PJ cats arent for start up. they are actually for regular cruising. cats dont work until regular operating temp hence why a lot of newer cars have a pre cat that is smaller so it warms up quicker. the high temps of boost dont kill cats more than likely its the soot and extra air (combined with extra exhaust) puts the cats through 3x the amount of air it normally handles so it gets clogged much faster.
My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.
JBO lube - they would never have enough in stock and we'd never see RodimusPrime again

After having 3 cats go bad on my 02 I feel I can justify not using one in the future. One melted, stock S/C reflash with stock S/C. The second one broke up and lodged itself in my exhaust. the third became plugged and had to be hollowed out as the car wouldnt run with it on there. With what I spent on all 3 of them combined I think I did my best to save the environment. Now I say @!#$it as so many other people arnt required to and put out far more emissions than I ever will.
Andrew Manczak wrote:Then can I just run with my stock cat for now?
CAN you run the stock cat? Yes
SHOULD you run the stock cat? No.
The stock cat. will create a bottleneck in the exhaust system and you will see high exhaust temperatures (not to mention hp loss).

1. why dont you run an open header if you need sooo much free flow.
2. buy a high flow cat
3. you can eliminate the second 02 w/o removing the cat.
4. your lazy
5. your car sucks
6. you being a big ol' bag o' douche doesnt irritate me, but it sure seems to irritate you.
