just turboed my 98 z24 and car idles very chopy and sometimes shuts off the motor while drving. im lost idk why the turbo would mess with the idle please help. i thought about messing with the emission sensors but they were good before turbo was on so idk why they would be bad now. and help much appreciated
My guess goes to too rich at idle, however:
We need more information like the setup, how its tuned, etc to help at all.
not tuned just running fmu stock injectors and fuel pump basically turbo on a stock motor with fmu
idk really man im new to this i just got a 12 to 1 fmu off ebay and hooked it up
I'd guess you're getting too much fuel at idle and that's causing it to idle.
If you're going to boost it, especially a custom kit, you NEED a Wideband O2 sensor to see what your air/fuel ratio is. You NEED to be on top of that at all times in a boosted car, it's super important for your motor.

thanks for the help any brands you would recommend. and another thing thats weird with my car is that exhaust is blowing through the waste gate and out the dump tube even when im not in boost.
Ok well I had the exact same problem ..... does it shut off when decelerating to a stop?
If so im guessing a head gasket, are you loosing coolant? The high vacuum of decelerating pulls more in through a blown head gasket. Im re-doing mine as we speak. Take all the plugs out and tape a q-tip to a stick and swab your pistons, see if they are all clean. Thats how I found out about mine when it eventually wouldnt even start up.
Coolant in 3 cylinders.
I was pissed!!!!!
How much boost are you running? I do not think it is getting too much fuel, because he is on stock injectors and a fMU, that will not add fuel at idle.

I had a similair problem my car would start hard and the hesitate under boost. turns out i got a bad tank of gas
When this happened the car hesitated and threw no code.
Im surprised to see no one mentioned he should NOT be running stock injectors.... I had those maxed by just upping the rev limiter a bit on my z.
yes the car only shuts off when i am coming to a stop. and when i put it in drive just driving around i dont even have to press the gas and i am getting to 30mph. btw i am runnin 4lbs. thanks guys for the help
HAULT, if you like your car/motor stop driving the car save up some cash and just bring it to a shop to be tuned and to have them upgrade your fuel system.

Not knowing what you're doing should have been the first indication that you SHOULDN'T be doing it. Learn first, do later. Its a lot cheaper that way, and generally a lot less frustrating.

no coolant on my pistons just checked. could still be the head gasket though.
just removed fmu and car idles awesome. idk i gues my car didnt like the fmu but i drove it around the block and it didnt shut off and it idled great. so i guess its time to save money for injectors and pump. thanks for all the help

What FMU do you have? If you are not running a FMU then you should not be driving your car with boost (unless you have another way to increase fuel)

its an ebay fmu. yeah i just cant do without a car i just will have to make damn sure i dont get into boost. i know its not smart but i have to have a car

I realize it came from ebay, but ebay does not make parts. Most FMU's add fuel pressure under boost, and do nothing unless they see boost. There is one that I know of that has a adjsutment for idle fuel pressure. If you have this one it can be adjusted to work properly. If you do not have this one then you have hooked something up wrong.

its a blox fmu. yeah idk how it could have been hooked up wrong the vaccumm line was t-eed off the line goin from the throttle body to the fuel pressure regulator. and then hooked up to the fuel lines. and thats it

I think my FMU gets it's reading from the turbo, not the FPR. Try hooking it up that way.

yeah for some reason i put the fmu back on the way i had and it idles fine. but now when i drive it and it gets up to temp it smokes horribly
