Snow performance - M45
Saturday, February 28, 2009 8:03 AM
I am getting ready to get my kit hooked up. I was talking to the mechanic putting it on and he was reading through the instructions that I printed off their website and they had mentioned something about a solenoid upgrade. So I went to the website and see that they have a couple "optional upgrades". One of them being the solenoid upgrade. It was saying that this solenoid

"is used when mounting the injection nozzle lower than the reservoir or the reservoir is rear-mounted to prevent gravity flowing. It is also used to prevent siphoning when the injection nozzle is mounted after the throttle body or carburetor and is exposed to vacuum."

I am wondering if people running the stage 1 kit from snow performance decided to go with this upgrade or not. I am planning on getting the tank mounted below the injector and am wondering if this would be fine. I do have a TBS that I am tapping my nozzle into. Anyways, let me know what you think. Since I am already making a post on this topic I was wondering if someday I wanted to upgrade my stage 1 kit to the stage 2 (progressive) if that is possible. I am just about to go look on their website to see so I may be able to find out relatively quickly but thought I'd ask on here anyways. Any help would be appreciated.

It's pretty simple. You need the solenoid valve to prevent flow during vacuum conditions. Since you intend on mounting the nozzle post-throttle body, where there is a large amount of suction/vacuum, you will need the solenoid to prevent the meth/water mixture from being siphoned through the tube when you don't want to.

I see that snow performance has one for $50 on their website. Wondering if there is something that you can pick up at a local car parts store that will do the same thing? I need the part by the middle of next week, but I guess I won't be driving it far to get it home so I could just park it there till I get it.

It is just a check valve right? Coolingmist kits come with one.

so the check valve does the same thing as the solenoid? I'm not sure if the kit came with a check valve or not...I'll have to call the mechanic monday and see what is in the kit..for some reason I don't think it comes with one which is kinda brutle.

So I just called Raven and he told me to tap it into the intake...I told him that people were saying that its not good for the TPS but he thinks thats crazy and told me to ditch the TBS and just put it before the TB...I don't want to spend another $75 on a solenoid if its not work it...I haven't decided what I am gonna do yet but if I do tap it into the intake I can sell my TBS which I had bored out to 60mm. If someone has a solenoid for sale I may be interested in purchasing it.

So I ended up buying the solenoid upgrade from summit. I figured I spent the money on boring out the TBS that I might as well use it, and I think it cleans up the install nicely. Hope it gets here soon. I'll have to take a look on the snow website to see how the solenoid is installed. Hopefully the kit can be installed and then add the solenoid when it comes it.

Seriously the SP kit did not come with one? Wow, not only is that kit insanely overpriced last I checked but it's not complete?

Your mechanic is installing said kit for you?

yeah...got the tranny almost back together and the a/c delete kit on...next on his list of things to do is the alky...he was reading through the instructions and mentioned that too me so I looked into it...I thought it was brutle that it wasn't a complete kit...I thought it was good cause everyone talked wonders about it...now I had to spend another $100 bucks on a stupid solenoid...not feeling the snow performance kit so far...hopefully it works well...anyone know if you can upgrade the stage 1 kit to a progressive kit? I may be looking into that in the fall when I have the engine out...well this is hopefully the last setback with my car.

Honestly to me, an alcohol injection kit is an alcohol injection kit, for the most part all the pieces in these said kits are identical.

Dare I ask what you paid for the SP kit versus John's CoolingMist kit?

I bought it used off the org. Got everything for 300 canadian shipped with a TBS. I think the kit is listed for $285 on the snow performance website. And another $100 canadian for the solenoid. So all said and done 400 with the TBS.

I had to use a solenoid even without any of the conditions they described due to vacuum before the TB pulling fluid in and letting it sit in my intake. It is easy to wire: just find a good ground, and the power wire to your pump. The solenoid that Snow sells opens at the 1st signs of voltage to the pump which is very important if you do upgrade to the progressive controller as is alters pump speed (therefore pressure) by ramping up the power to the pump. You should be able to upgrade to the progressive controller; just get ahold of Snow and tell them which pump you have. There are a couple versions depending upon age.

Does the pump you got have a pressure adjustment on the back of it in the form of a set screw in a plastic housing?

Are the fittings you got plastic or metal?

Please don't make me feel any worse..I just added up how much I put into my car this winter and it was a nice little total of $8100 :S

I hope to god I get a decent run out of it this summer or I'm not gonna be a happy camper. Just seemed like it has been one little thing after another and it has added up. Anyways, good to hear that not everyone is blowing money when they don't have to

Raven is running the progressive AEM kit in his car. I haven't heard a lot about it but if Raven is running it in his car its not too shabby

Like I said, most kits are identical. Not trying to make you feel bad, but when you can save money, hell yes .
