Identifying a turbo
Tuesday, March 03, 2009 9:57 PM
I need help identifying a turbo. From what i can tell its a t3 flange with an internal wastegate. I dont think you can swap out the springs on the wastegate because its a solid piece, but i this is my first turbo experience so i may be wrong. Also its a garrett turbo, and it also has a plate that says it has been rebuilt. There absolutely zero shaft play and it looks like its in great shape. I bought it for 90 bucks from a kid on here who basically didnt know what he had. I also tried typing in all of the casting numbers into google and nothing came up. Hopefully you guys can help with the pics or lead me in the right direction. The reason i ask is because im trying to figure out my oiling situation and figure out if its a turbo i want to use on my setup.

any help would be appreciated!

to me that almost doesnt look like a real garrett, usually garrett turbo's have raised letters on the housing, also it looks like two of the studs are broken off, but it could just be the picture,

if it can't win a race it better win a show

the turbo does have the letters cast onto it, i just figured that i didnt need to take a picture of it. Two of the studs are out not broken and the other two are stripped. I figured that it wouldn;t be very expensive or hard to get four new ones and throw them in.

Looks like a T3 off of a Benz. 250/290 HP range.

if it had a model # it would narrow it down.
