Remote Wastegate?
Saturday, March 14, 2009 10:38 AM
I purchased an older Fetter header from the TG Drag Car and instead of cutting up my firewall or relocating the entire WG feed tube to make room for a WG, i've been rolling the idea over in my head of if i could just "remote" mount the feed tube...or lengthen it if you wanna get technical...just to move it a bit so i don't run the risk of @!#$ up the collector.

This is what i'm meaning.

I just realised i never actually asked my question lol.

Is this safe at all? Or could i run into some problems from the exhaust gases not being able to escape fast enough or something?

I'd only be lengthening it just enough to get it outta the way, i'd still try to keep it a short as possible.

Any ideas? I'm hoping Miller or Fetter will chime in

You'll find out if you have boost creep problems........

how big is the gate thats what will make the difference.

can you take heat off of the turbo....? then your waste gate works.

that's all there is to it.

Well it looks like a 35/38mm flange, so that wont flow much. But I think you will be alright if your not looking for terribly low boost pressures.

On there now is some square HKS flange that will be comming off for a 44mm Tial V-Band flange.

When the turbo first goes on i'll only be running 7-8psi to start, then move it up to my 10.5psi spring. After i get bored of that i'm sure to get a Profec controller and run more with race gas for the track, but still be DD at 10psi.

Hope that helps other help me lol.

shouldnt be a problem, but i did have boost creep issues on that header up until 11 or 12psi, but running a bigger gate could help, with running a 44mm gate increase the tube size to a 1 7/8" pipe off the collector

1 7/8 is 48mm od, i'm not really questioning your knowledge or ability, but is that not a little overkill and are you certain the V-band flange will still be able to be clamped without too much trouble from the pipe being in the way?

I was looking up sizes and figured 1 3/4 (45mm od) would be more appropriate. What do you think?

Thanks for the help!

1 7/8" fits perfectly in the 44mm flange, heres my header with 1 7/8
