pretty sure you cant do anything w/ the pcm once it's been flashed.

well i guess i'm just goin to have to get a used pcm and flash it for my vin with a stock flash. i'll give gm tech line a call later today and see what they say.
It's probably cheaper to grab a ECU from a junk yard. As long as it has the same transmission you have.
you can reflash back to stock, i did and then just recently got another supercharger and flashed back to the reprogram.
Its possible and easy

ah. thank you for the info.
now why cant hpt read the ecu if it can be reflashed back to stock? strange.

I am just taking a shot at it...but the OS has to be compatible with HPT for one thing, and if there are tables that GM has modded that aren't supported by HPT, that may be another.
Folks having more specific experience with HPT on this application may be able to add more accurate info.

as far as i am aware of... i was told that if you have someone on the "inside" ... as in at a chevy dealer... you can have them unlock the pcm in itself... which enables anything to read and access the tune... i talked to the tech months after he flashed my car and said that he and his manager were debating locking my pcm or leaving it unlocked.... that seemed kinda strange to me... i then proceeded to slap him for locking it... lol... but as far as i know... GM has the power to both lock... and unlock the pcm...

As i have done multiple reflashes both eco and 2.4, spent many a hour on the phone w/ tac and keith @ hptuners, you cant unlock the eco tune, as far as locking and unlocking, i havent heard anything about this, sounds shady to me
HPT has nothing to do with that... if HPT cant even enter the pcm and obviously cant unlock the tune if it cant get in... just like me having a lock on my door... you cant access my room without the key... and GM has the key... GM locks the reflash... which means they can unlock it or NEVER lock it once the flash is done... anything is possible

ok i have a spare ecm from the junk yard and i cant remember but if i were to swap out my reflashed ecm and put the junkyard one in do i have to do the 30min theft relearn to get it to start, the ecm came from the same year and trany
yes, you'll have to do the re-learn. I doubt the theftlock was removed on the junkyard ECM.
if you're selling JUST the re-flashed PCM, send me a PM.

i had just sold my s/c kit and the pcm is goin with it, so i can do the 30 min relearn with key on for ten mins than off like 2 more times thats what i had read some where but o cant find it now.
it's on the .org somewhere. might try the maintenance forums. search for "relearn procedure"... you'll find it.
