I know i need cooling mods before i even think about this buttttt,

The cobalt stage 2 kit for the m62, Same for us running it?

42lb injectors, 2.9 pulley and a retune?

Now do i have to worry about building the engine for that?

Anybody done this yet? im considering it, after i finsh my supporting mods for my stock setup now, Still need cooling mods and exhaust not metion suspension upgrade.

people have done a 2.9" pulley for sure. You shouldn't have to build your motor as long as it gets tuned properly and KR is avoided You hit the nail on the head - keeping the system cool is the biggest factor in that. Also running good premium gasoline.

If you haven't already bought it, I would just get 60 lb/hr injectors and tune with those - no sense in having to upgrade multiple times and a 60 lb/hr tune wouldn't be any more difficult than a 42 lb/hr tune for us.

Now, my personal opinion on this is, while a pulleying down may be a quick way to a few more ponies and seem cheap upfront, looking at the big picture, investing in supporting mods will make the car more reliable and also add power. I'm talking full exhaust , headwork, cams, some form of heat exchanger, water/meth injection, ect. This sounds very obvious but taking restriction out of the system and letting the blower more easily pump the air will make more reliable power than just pulleying down. Higher boost pressure on a PD blower is not necessarily a good thing.

I'll be dropping from a 3.1" pulley to a 2.9" this summer, but like oldskool said it is just a compliment to my other mods. Which include 60s, nice big H/E, meth, cams, and of course HPT. Im actually hoping to get the biggest gains from the cams and retune.

I'm with the others. Don't waste time with the 42's. I'm ready to sell mine as I want more boost....and I've had the car on the road for 2 weeks lol.

best to go with flow-matched injectors aswell. Expensive, but worth it

i just took my car out with the 2.8 on for the first time last night...lets just say i had a big simile

I would be surprised if any eco 2.2 motor will survive a 2.9 pulley if support mods are added. For those that have read the GM build book the rods are the weak point in the motor. In the book they reference a 250 motor hp number...now obviously many are proving that number wrong...but none the less they are the weak point of the motor and most rod failure is not from an inability to handle power but to handle vibrations. Has anyone with the cavy sucessfuly used a 2.9 pulley and be able to provide a dyno sheet?

I had GM's webpage bookmarked for a while where they tested the failure point of components and they tossed the rods at ~270-280hp on nitrous. I have no worries about a stock L61 holding together with a 2.9 w/ supporting mods.

Im pretty sure there are a few Js with 2.9" or lower.

My best freinds 2.2 Cobalt is on a 2.9" no meth and supporting mods runs perfect and has been this way for 7000 miles, been to the track, on the dyno runs without a hiccup.

is that 270 motor or wheel? dyno jet or mustang dyno? the general difference of 15.5% in dyno's is a big difference.

I believe it was an engine dyno, so there was no drivetrain loss. Still, im not worried.
