I'm working on installing the GMPP supercharger kit for my '05 sunfire. I'm almost done and the belt that came with the kit is way too long. Anyone know what length of belt this kit is supposed to have? This really sucks, as I've got to get a rental to get me to work.

figured out what I was doing wrong with the routing. now, how the heck do I compress the tensioner to get the belt on?.

You need a 15mm wrench to do this. It's just behind the tensioner pulley on top. It kinda looks like a black square.
that...is the worst design I have ever seen. I barely put any force on it and the wrench rolled right off, rounding it. I even tapped the wrench on beforehand to make sure it engaged as far as it can. Whatever happened to the old way of casting a square to put an actual breaker bar on it? I doubt I'm the only one that's had this problem.

Does the GMPP kit use the stock tensioner or a different design?

It's a completely different design. It's got a 'hydraulic tensioner'. i.e. it's basically a small gas strut the fits in a really tight space between the belt routing. The lever arm attached to it has a stupid square boss on the casting that you use a 15mm, open end wrench to apply force to release the tension so you can install the belt. It's a ridiculously poor design since the casting has rounded corners, draft on the faces and is fairly soft. Watch out for it if you install a kit, it's super easy to round off. If I designed it, I would want to be blindfolded, given a cigarette and executed for being an idiot. It wasn't even immediately obvious that it's what you use to release the tension. Thanks to Andrew for pointing it out to me.

I use a Vise grip and lock it on there as tight as possible then it just moves easy as pie...

BTW it is the stock belt/tensioners that are found on the LSJ.

Ah, that was one thing I was wondering.

you can use the vice grips only so many times...I used a big pry bar...
^^^ Same as me . big pry bar
