Rear Mounted Turbo, Oil Pump Setup

I got my oil return pump today and was trying to think of a way so that if the fuse blows on it I can have a buzzer go off or a light come on to let me know that it has stopped. Any Ideas?

ya know... ive often thought about this.

could you set up a seperate oil system just for the turbo? so you wouldnt need to run lines all the way to the front of the car i mean...

You could, but this could also cause other issues......

Sorry I can't help you with your question, but please post pics of your build. My friend is researching boost options for his grand am and would love to see a remote set up like this. He sold the m62 kit because its so small and now hes looking into a turbo set up. I'm really interested to see what you come up with. Is there any reason your going remote? I would imagine everything is pretty tight on the J.

i like remote setup's... i dont get why more people here dont do them. i mean sure its a bit more fabbing and really aint going to get you 800whp, but who cares? its a neat setup. ive wanted one for years. maybe some day... who knows.

I though about running one and using a ron's header. With that and the pump/lines I think itll just be too pricey for my liking so other avenues it will be.

it can get you the same amount as a turbo on the motor.

biggest downfalls:
longer charge pipes
exposed to the elements
easy to steal if someone had a sawzall
length of oil feed and return and having to pump it.

Its also more of a PITA to tune...... Personally speaking, I would much rather have a conventional turbo setup over a Remote Mount setup. I have them both, so I think I'm qualified here.... Its a fun car for my wife to drive, but it does require more maintenance...

Not sure what pump you used on your wifes car, but the one i was looking at was going to run about $400-500.

That is what almost every LS1 rear mount turbo setup runs. They are very high quality pumps from what I have heard, and last a long long time (no failures that I know of, unlike the cheap STS pumps).

You heared wrong..... Those pumps will not last. Why do you feel the STS pumps suck? They are actually built really well and are designed to be used in this fashion, unlike the pump in your link..... The pump I have on my wife's car is the same exact pump STS uses...

Just telling you what I have heard. They also run the Mocal pumps: http://www.racerpartswholesale.com/product/1546/Differential_Cooler_Pump

It seems like lots of guys have reliability issues with the STS pump, and upgrade to the Mocal, Tilton, or Shurflo.

I have seen nothing BUT issues of the pumps you have listed.... Did you happen to look at the link I provided?

Yes, I did look at the link you provided. And seeing that the best pump they found is their own, makes me suspicious. If you are a business owner, of course you are going to say your product is superior to your competitors. I can't blame them there. I don’t mean to start anything, by any stretch of the imagination - but to be frank, I would take what a huge group of extremely knowledgeable and dedicated enthusiasts has to say before some (in my mind biased) article on a manufacturers website. I am not referring to one or two people here who have had bad luck with STS. I am talking about a fair amount of people whose pumps have failed and resulted in some level of destruction, or being left on the side of the road. I also helped my friend with a 5.3 2007 Silverado install a rear mount STS kit, and he has had a few problems with his pump as well. I understand that maybe you have had good luck with the STS (RBR) pump, and I certainly am not knocking what you have. I am just trying to advise the OP to do some research for himself, and maybe look at the bigger picture.

Knowing someone that went through several diaphragm pumps before having success with the spur gear pump linked, I would have to say that in my own build I would use a spur gear pump. Was going to use one from RBRacing.

same here those setup sound so awesome. You could run a relay and have the buzzr/light on the normally off position. The coil of the relay parellel to the pump and when it loses power the buzzer/light gets power.

Im considering it also with the GTZ. But first Im looking into ITB's....if that fails then Im going to get an estimate on doing a remote setup on my GTZ with the R. header already installed.

GMR has got nothing on this

RB Racing Electric Pumps are the only pumps that Fidanza resells / uses with the STS kits that the sell.
