Meth Kit Install

The kit i just bought (used) is only boost controlled. It is not progressive. Would getting a progressive controller for it be better then just using the on/off boost switch?

Also, I am thinking about using the sensor hole on the top of the blower for my injection point. Is this a good or bad idea (im not owrried about clearance issues). Does it matter where the meth is in the intake path?

Well progressive would be better as it sprays and an appropriate percentage depending on boost level. I had a boost solenoid and had it to spray at 4-5psi (which was pretty much anytime I was on the throttle) and it worked fine for me. I had my nozzle tapped into a TBS.

i was told to spray post blower. that's what i"m doing using the ZZP spacer with ports and i too have the boost switch. no problems.

spraying post blower defeats half of the purpose of my kit... COOLING!

No not really. You want the incoming air temp to drop, doing it post blower will do that. Thing is the blower it's self will stay warm.

yes it will cool the air post blower, but pre blower it cools the blower too. it might only be 5-10*, but it does. the guy i bought the kit from did test both pre and post meth with the nozzle installed pre blower. the IC to to cool the air post blower.

pre blower also means that the meth can affect the coating on the rotors of the blower. hence why most try to spray post blower.

I'm pretty sure this is a myth. The fact that the majority of people run their meth pre charger and have done so for years with no problems (including me) makes me wonder how true that is. Now fuel for nitrous may be a different thing and maybe what your referring to.

i agree with this. my blower was run for 2 years with meth bre blower, and the rotors still look amazing. i dont think the miniscule amount of meth going into the blower would make any noticable difference on the finish of the rotors. if you were spraying like a gallon a day, then maybe. but how much meth do people here actually go through. a gallon every couple weeks. I know that what my buddy goes through with his custom Hahn kit pushing 350.

I fully support spraying pre blower.
I also think it helps the boost PSI to spray pre blower.

I spray alot of meth. Running a 550cc nozzle if I recall correctly. I could use a gallon in probably 6-7 1-4 gear pulls. A Gallon probably lasts me 1-2 weeks because I do not drive my car daily.

I was running a 225cc nozzle and it would last for a good while. I made my own mixture so it didn't really cost much to make. 10 bucks for the methyl hydrate and 2 bucks for the distilled water, made 8 litres for around 15 bucks.

I buy my meth in a 5 gallon drum for $40, and then by distilled water and mix it to my liking. The first 5 gallon drum lasted me a little over a year. But I moved up in my nozzle size so we will see how long it lasts now.

I am still looking for a good supplier. Where do you get yours from?

I agree with this. Prior to having meth I could barely touch the s/c ofter doing some passes at the track and I used bags of ice to cool the s/c down. Now with the meth its warm to touch, so I know its doing its job to decrease IAT's and helps with heat soak big time. Plus I was seeing more consistent boost pressures as well.

Local performance shop. I have also been told that local go-cart shops as well.

A boost switch should work fine for you - with the M62 you hit boost so fast that a progressive controller might not be fully exploited if that makes sense. There are a lot of philosophies on water/meth, but the chemistry says that water cools better (per volume) and you need less of it. You know you have too much water when it misfires, and if your pump dies, you don't go overly lean from loosing a great quantity of methanol, which has fuel value. The thing about placement is you want the IAT sensor to have an accurate measure of temperature; we have an IAT vs advance table/multiplier, so you can build in some safety there with tuning the water/meth, but ONLY if your IAT is picking up the temps of the air that is actually going into the engine, ie post blower.

It's a different beast, but i've run up to 70% water on the solstice through a 3gph nozzle @ 250 psi and it loves it.

Some tracks sell methanol too - local track is 3.50$/gallon last time i got it.

Chris.... I could swear chucko at speedworld sells Meth for 3-4 bucks a gallon... that 25 bucks a gallon price is a little crazy if you ask me...

Aaron, that is 25 bucks for 4 gallons. Pre mixed. 49/51 meth water ratio.

Dear god thats a big jug of meth haha. Probably wouldn't run out for a bit with that thing!

usually we buy one drum a year and divy it out to the diesel trucks out here, and those that run it in their car. it lasts a LONG time.

I've been running meth injection for years. I currently have a progressive kit on my turbo Cavy and also a progressive kit on my Cobalt SS. Since the Cobalt is more like your setup what I do and recommend is getting a TB spacer plate and tapping it for your Meth nozzle. I also like running my meth pre-blower so it not only cools your IAT temps but also your blower to elleviate heat soak and keep the air going through the s/c cooler. If you are running lower boost levels you will be completely fine with a simple boost switch.
