ok so i posted in here before just on the saab setup and ppl were maxing 10 psi... so i wanted to see what turbo and psi others were hittin on a stock engine? i know all engines are different but i keep doubting how much boost i can run on the stock internals... im thinking 15psi now since that turbo is very small and ive heard of 12 psi being ran on the hahn 20g.... of course im also using hpt not the gm reflash so it will be more taylored to my setup..... so please any post is welcome .... i just wanna know what other ppl are running on different setups and what has or hasnt worked.....
I ran 10 for an entire summer, saw it spike 14 a few times. Motor never choked once, transmission thought otherwise though...
10 lbs on a 60 trim for about 2 years which made 300 whp before it finaly let go

i make neons and j-bodys go fast
Actually 12psi on a 58trim before "letting go".... head gasket cough cough*

been running a garrett t3t4 57 trim @ 15-16 psi on my car for a while now on a crappy tune with 18-19 psi spikes, rev limit set at 7150 and its still alive

before that it was about 1.5 years on a 60 trim at 10lbs, my bad for not being super specific.

well my buddy ran 8psi and ran a 13.2@104 and i just wanna break into the 12's ill be happy witha 12.999999 haha.... i just dont want 15psi to be too much for the stock internals.... ive been running 7000rpm on the stock head too so im sure that didnt help the reliability of it haha....
Sounds like you need a more efficient system buddy.... 15-16psi should yield almost 400whp on a good setup...

no not true... if im boosting 15psi on the td04 it will never compare to 15psi on a 20g or a t04e.... i highly boubt that id ever make 300whp on the saab turbo even if i maxed it out but id be really close to 300 on 15psi using the 20g and the turbo ur using id be over 300 on 15psi
Lol no no not you dude... cavi2sunfire

depends on the turbo size... but for his since its the same turbo as mine... i put down 325/285 on stock timing, dynojet numbers would be about 375. should be over 400 in a month.
Like I said... lol 9.5psi on a 60trim .63ar made 300whp stock motor.... its not THAT much bigger to need almost twice the boost and achieve the same thing... I said he needs a more efficient setup... not a different turbo... why doesn't he make what you make? Either way.... I say you should be able to hit 330whp stock block... as for how long it lives... dunno but get a good tune

i was more so referring to the 15-16psi should yield 400hp on a good setup. I have a good setup, very conservative tune, but still a good setup but am only at 325hp or again 375 dynojet. id have to be in the 18-20 range for 400. granted im on a 57trim with the .63 a/r with the built motor. i did 225 stock motor 6.5psi same setup. If I do a billet wheel ill be at maybe 16-18psi but 400hp. So its all in the turbo or housing or wheels.
im not calling you wrong, im just saying its going to be different for every system.
well my low numbers can be related to the fact that the tune is one hundred percent crap and i need bigger injectors but im happy with where its at and to you blueboost yes your car is very efficient but i want to know how long the head is going to stay together with the basically race porting it has and don't take this as a bashing i love your car and the power you are making is remarkable im just stating that in the past ppl have had problems with the coolant passages on these heads with crazy port jobs. now back to my setup im confident that if i put turbo grind cams in it and with someone like qwik (ryan) my car could easily hit 350 with the turbo i have and at the boost level im at. when i originally got it tuned it was @ 8psi and put down 235whp and i turned the boost up to 15-16 and only got another 60ish hp out of it that right there basically tells you how crappy this dumb tune is. this fall is when im gonna put down the big numbers when i drop about 10k of my re-enlistment bonus on building an engine and shooting for 500+. but yes i agree my setup is not efficient and sorry if i seem to be jumping around had a crappy night lol

Cavi2Sunfire what branch are you in? I was told re-enlistment bonuses were not being offered right now (Army). & I guess I will contribute to the post now. I have not pushed the motor to the outer limits & won't be able to with this car because its sleeved & forged but I have a buddy, Chris Whatley, some of you might remember from like 05-06ish who pushed his stock motor to 309 whp for 3yrs, on a FMU & NO TUNE, before it finally popped. The car wasn't daily driven but it was driven frequently so I think you should worry less about the amount of boost you run & look @ hp numbers & a good tune.
It beats a Honda!
hp is what im getting at with this..... like i said my only major power adder is the saab turbo and if ppl know they ran x amount of boost wit a bigger turbo than that means they are making more hp than i am... well they should be... im not really worried about it blowing up all that means is its time to build but i would like to drive the car some before it does break haha.... so im thinking 10-12 psi driving everyday and 12-15 psi when i wanna play and i should be safe... im getting a pretty comprehensive tune from a org member so im hoping that compensates for everything... plus the engine is under 35k..
i dont recall how high the saab setup goes, but if i recall chad had the most psi/power with his saab setup. Last i recall there was only a low performance and a high performance turbo only and thats it. granted any amount could blow the stock motor but i dont think you will hit it with that setup
well i have the 207R high pressure.... i mean its just a tiny lil bugger haha... ive heard alotta ppl being in the 300whp range and being fine but the ppl hitting 230 and breaking... but im confident with a decent tune i will be perfectly safe.....
stikman im in the Marines and i also heard that they were going away but im hoping they are still there next fiscal year lol sorry for the thread jack now back to the topic i would say that in order to keep an engine from popping is to have a good tune

My friends car I tuned was pushing 17psi and made 314whp on stock motor.
The very first street owned (non GM backed) Ecotec ran 17-20 psi on stock motor back in the day with a FMU setup and stock timing.
FU Tuning
Ok OP I see what you're saying now & I think Vince has answered it pretty well...with a decent tune I also think you will max out the turbo before you make it to the point that the motor blows on you. I agree with the goals you have set yourself 10-12 daily & 12-14/15-ish on the track. Also what year is your motor? I have heard rumors that the 00-02 Ecotec's have even weaker rods than the already fragile later years. I know I snapped 2 rods in my original engine(02 LSS) but it was a hydrolock situation, don't think u can really blame the engine for that.
It beats a Honda!
Im honored to be in your status Phil
325x0.15= 48.75
325+48.75= 373.75
its never jumped around. it did 325 on mustang dyno, and figure dynojet numbers is 375.
my motor is an 04 swapped into an 02..... it had 15000 when i put it in and i drove it for almost a year now so..... i mean im extremly happy with 250whp.... im not trying to go out and run 25 psi haha.... pretty much like i said i want a slip that has the number 12 in the et spot haha... it only has to happen once and i achieved my goal....
see vince? couldn't leave me alone on the site like I had asked.
I called 4 different mustang dyno shops today before I posted this, all confirmed max 10% difference between dynojet and mustang, go to a dynojet, then put up dynojet numbers, until then, its 325 on mustang dyno
