custom charge pipe
Tuesday, March 22, 2011 10:53 PM

So this might be a dumb question but i was going to turbo my car....... now it is an auto so the charge pipe on the turbo kit wont fit............thats why they only make them for the 5spd...
now is the charge pipe something i could get fab'd up at a local muffler shop, or is it more complex than that?

buy a mandrel bent 2.5" builders kit on ebay. aluminum pipe is recommended but you can use steel pipe. try to avoid using too many couplers to connect the pipes if you cant weld. find someone who can weld aluminum or steel. unfortunitely a muffler shop is only going to have crush bent pipe so dont waste your time and money.

heres a tip if they fill the pipe tight with sand it will minimize the crush but i still would use aluminum piping it dicipates heat alot better

I would say turbo it. More potential for power. But a s/c setup may not be bad as they are very reliable. It depends what your goals are. I don't know what motor you have as your profile isn't filled out. So there is a mp45 and mp62 s/c available from gm.

I decided that i am going with the m62 blower. As far as the motor goes it is going to be completly rebuilt. my dad owns a shop so i am all set there. This is my fisrt time messing with 4cyl i grew with v8's but the ecotec is such an awesome platform. i should be done with my car around june-july i hope.

the mp62 is much better than the 45. People make some decent numbers with that s/c as it flows a lot more air. And you always have the option to upgrade to a Harrop.
