wideband install and forget stock O2 sensors???
Tuesday, August 02, 2005 8:24 AM
I have the plx m300 wideband. My question is can I just hook that up and just use the wideband O2 sensor that came with it and leave my stock O2 sensors unplugged? So I will only have one O2 sensor in my exhaust system? The way I see it... that would work because I will be monitoring the a/f with the wideband, and I will be controlling fuel with the safc and the adjustable sfmu. I know this will result in a cel, but if that is the only con of doing it this way I will do it. Anybody have any input on this or what did you guys do for your widebands??? I need answers asap. Thanks.

this will also result in the car not going in to closed loop. IE limp mode, your timing curves and rule tables will not be correct.

That is exactly what I wanted to know...if there was a limp mode or safe mode with the stock ecu not seeing anything from the O2 sensors. Thanks for the answer Taetsch Z24!!!

not for the first one, IE sencer one bank one, that has to be in for the computer to adjust fuel... the after car one yes, because all that does is tell the computer if the car is burning all the unburnt gas\hydrocarbons, but messing with the first one... i wouldent do it.

Pick up the innovative stand-alone LC1 wideband from karo.

It is a full heated wideband 02 with a narrowband output for the stock computer to read off of.

Screw in, wire up, call it a day. I'm going that route soon.

Also, if the computer doesn't see a primary 02 sensor it 100% freaks out and starts unloading fuel into the engine.

the plx m-300 has a narrowband output, just splice the wire into the stock o2 sensor signal wire. i am running this right now perfectly.

Isnt it not a good idea to leave a wideband in? Since it's so expensive and all. Or do most people do this? How long will it last?

coldfusion,
which o2 sensor did you splice the narrowband into, If it was the rear what wire was it?

You wire it to the first O2 (primary) sensor (1 or 2 wire depending on year). Thats the one the computer uses for tuning. I believe its the Purple wire you spice it to (on the car side of the harness, not the sensor side..... you can unplug your stock sensor, and put it in your tool box)

I love the PLX wide band...... I need to get me one of those.
