...really could use the input, thanks in advance~!

1-Has anyone lightened or know anyone who has lightened the stock flywheel a few pounds? I heard from a mech. friend o mine that the stock iron piece could be lightened a bit during machining (maybe a few pounds, I know it weighs 25+lbs.) to quicken revs a bit...to tell the truth, money isnt an issue, Im not rich, but have the money to spend on an alum piece, but I have heard they have driveablitly issues for city driving...which is what I do 99 percent of the time, I never compete. Just my lil fun weekend car. I have the usual mods (header, full exhaust, 59mm tb, suspension, mounts, blah blah)...but my car will most likely stay n/a, at least for a while. ANy thoughts or suggestions would be HIGHLY appreciated, wanna buy these parts soon...

2-Also, I have a centerforce d/f was gonna use..have heard not too well made...any thoughts or suggestions on maybe running a diff. clutch if I DO decide to purchase an alum piece?

Guys, write my back a whole BOOK with any thoughts or experience...damn, I wish this forum got more posts, but I know this thread doesnt belong in performance.

Thanks!

1) STAY WITH STOCK. The lightend flywheels are not good for anything other than Auto-X. If you drag race forget about it your waisting your time.

2) as for an aftermarket clutch, unless your running some super low 1/4 mile times its also a waist. Go get a standard replacement clutch, and take the new pressure plate into a clutch shop and have them up the spring pressure and blamo you have an instant StageII clutch..

for racing where you need fast revs comming out of corners etc then sure i'm saying the light flywheel is great, where your in a line drag racing it will hurt more than help. there is a different setup per application you just have to decide what you want to do to make the most out of your combo.

....great input guys...how about driveablility issues with the alum piece? If it isnt a great idea, and no one knows anyone who has successfully lightened the stock piece, I might just buy a light one...I really dont drag, but I really dont auto-x/road race/rally or anything...just bang a little on the streets on the weekends. Any more thoughts? Thanks again...

the light flywheel is a bitch on the streets, you have alot less force to get the car moving so you really have to use the clutch/rpm to get moving. if you dont auto-x or any other race other than a street stay stock, you're waisting your money right here as you'll gain limited to no performance from it. you're cash is better spent elsewhere.

I shaved about 1/2 a pound off mine just getting it turned, but that's because mine was really bad from the abuse the stock clutch took. I probably could have shaved enough off to lose a full pound or so, then drilled the perimeter to lose another 2 pounds, but I just wanted it to be on the road again without having to fuss with all the material removal and balancing issues with perimeter drilling. No matter what you do with it, it's still cast iron, and it's gonna be heavy. But I still placed 3rd my first time out to an SCCA event with bald RSA's up front. And I've driven cars with both stock flywheels (like my car) and aluminum, (like QBE's car) and it's so much easier to drive with the stock flywheel.
