I am going from a 96 2.2 to an 01 2200 ... (price is right and work should be much less than a 2.4 swap my Original motor is in need of repair and id rather build this over the winter and put it in my 97 j next summer )
I got my hands on a 2200 engine w/ wiring and all accessories (alternator power steering pump ecu etc etc ... ) .... but the tranny it had was automatic.... I want to keep my current transmission which is 5 speed.. I've searched and from what i've found is GM used isuzu's from 95-99 and getrag from 00-02 .... but what i cant clarify is did they use the getrag on the 2.2 also or just on the 2.4s ... .. from what i understand according to the hollander interchange manual ..the engine is the same 2200 from 98 - 02 .... and supposedly they have the same transmission from 95-99 ? and from 00-02 ...... this tells me that the 2.2s and the 2200's ahve used the same transmissions at one point in time .. ...shouldnt in theory a manual tranny from a 96 2.2 be able to bolt and be compatible to an 01 engine ??? if not please explain why ... i need this clarifyed before i start the swap i dont want to get stuck in the middle of it and realize oh i need axles new tranny etc ...
yes to your question, just reuse the flywheel and clutch from your stock engine and the 01 2200 will bolt right in just like your stock 2.2 did, then you will just have to run new radiator and heater hoses and probably new fuel lines, but shouldnt be to hard.
