Redline/SS tranny in 3rd gen J?

Wondering if this was possible... i poked around for a little but surprisingly didn't find any other posts on this. It'd be nice to have a beafier tranny and the equal length drive-shafts. I mean same motor, and as long as the wheelbase isn't a huge difference I don't see why not. Worst case scenario a hub swap. Too bad I can't afford it right now lol just got to thinking.

Alright I realized that was a bit vague 5 sec after I posted... manual trans of course, and into an ecotec 3rd gen... just in case anybody was confused.

Most people aren't putting enough power to the ground to warrant changing the tranny out for a beefier one... so really, the chances of someone doing it are pretty slim. Judging by your mods, you are a long way (as am I) from needing a different tranny.

Want equal length driveshafts? Get an automatic

You'd likely need a new bellhousing... unless the bolts all line up.. and you'd have to check the splines on the input shaft... plus the length of the axles... and the mounts for the tranny... but it's not rocket science. A little $$$, a lot of time... anything can fit.

Well both being ecotecs I kinda doubt they'd bother with different bolt locations... input shaft maybe but not terribly likely.

Oh and I hate autos

Make sure you buy the factory LSD option.

I saw a Cobalt down at Berettafest and it had lots of Right tire fire....

You will go slower with the SS Supercharged trans... the Ratios for a reg 2.2 Ecotec and SS Supercharged tran's were posted, the stock 2.2 Trans has higher ratios than the SS, so you will actually go faster with the regular trans if you have the same power as the SS. Id say if your stock trans holds it stick with it till it brakes.
