Trtanny gone?
Thursday, July 14, 2005 6:45 PM
Well, It started yesturday my car was acting up i thought may be the brakes were sticking to the rotor like they did sometime ago. Well today vibs started getting real bad then finally no matter what gear i put the car in the car would not move and would have this god awful grinding sound. It seem to shift into all gears but it seems like it is not catching. I think the tranny is shot. I got it towed to the dealership for them to take a look at. I guess i will see what happens tomorrow.

Anyone think it might be something else. I have a SPEC III Clutch and Flywheel

Dang!!
Well the dealer said they didn't even have to take apart the tranny from what they heard and saw it has to replace. Glad i don't have to replace my clutch and flywheel which i got just over a year ago.
The dealer is going to do it. Yeah i know they are going to rape me but this dealership does excellent work. I can attest to that and others. Plus if anything goes wrong i know they will not give me any hassell to get it fixed. Plus the wife would rather have them do it so if any other problems we can take back to fix if need be.

Damn you Jason you registered before me

I had a local shop change my tranny the last time and I only got 5k out of that one!!! My wife didn't want to see another huge bill, so I am rebuilding the tranny with a new differential. The rebuild is surprisingly straight forward

Yep, I registered slightly before you. Actually I only thought to check after I seen your sig I had a couple of people ask me about that at the bash. Funny that they didn't know anything about me but when that spot on my signature!!!

Tranny fixed now i am realizing i had a tranny problem for the last 3 years my car drives so smoothly. I called GM about it because this could have been fixed under my 36,000 mile warranty. They told me at the time they would have to take apart the tranny and if there was no problem i would have to pay for lobor which i did not have the money for. Well they said they can not give me a full reimbursement but they can give me a partial reimbursement, so we shall see.

I am having some noise and vibration that I think could be the tranny but not sure.

Vibration and noise is gets louder as the speed of the car increases. (but not only when giving it gas)

The vibration and noise will go away when I turn the steering wheel to the 2 o'clock position. Gets louder when I turn to the left.

Tranny slips when I make a hard left turn. (has only happened when i was making some hard g's)

I have changed the right driveshaft, wheel bearing. I know that my left caliper is dragging slightly but not enough to make much of a difference.

If the car was taken to the tranny shop would they be able to tell if it is gone?

Car has 120,000+

My clutch has been "Slipping" for some time now [Or atleast, i believe it's the clutch slipping]. Today, I exit my driveway, Go Threw first gear normal, threw second normal, Into Third normal, Then back down threw them as i was slowing for a light.
I stopped at the light, and took off again. Got up to about 2700/3000, shifted two second regularly, and it seemed i had missed. So i tried going back to Neutral, And back into second. still nothing. So i shift back into first [Was in Lower 5-10mph range], and got it back up to 15-20, to shift to second again, Nothing. so i went to third, And headed home.

I called my buddy, And he was telling me how he thought it was a clutch [But only one gear going out?] Right as i was saying "It engages in 1st, third, fourth, and fifth", i was putting it into first. Let the clutch out, ::GRINDDDDDD:: Hurry and put it back to N. Try again, ::GRIND:: Back to N. So he tell's me to try to start out in third, And all goes well..

Do you guy's think this could be the beginning of the clutches end, Like he's suggesting, Or do you think it's the Diff, or some other part of the tranny?

If indeed it is the clutch, Should i go with a spec stage II, With a Relativly stock J-body? for the simple fact, i beat the hell outta clutches?

I yes a Stage II would be fine. I have a stage III and if i had to do it again i may go with a stage II. But i like my stage III.

I had somewhat of that problem. It would be hard to get into 3rd reverse and downshift into second from 3rd. Over a space a 2-3 years my tranny finally went. I change my clutch because it was slippiong real bad but i still had the problem.

Right now I have sent a letter to GM and they said they would give me some sort of partial reimbursement.

Hmm.. Im not thinking it's my clutch anymore. due to it engauging in every gear, Except 2nd, and now 1st.

I've read up a bit more, And have found people with Shifter cable problem's, seeming ABOUT like mine, But, If it we're a shiftercable, Why would just 2, and then 1 go out, and not 2/4/R, Then 1/3/5? Maybe i just need to adjust them?

Did the shifter cable thing as well help but still ended up getting a tranny.
