Hey guys i got my clutch done about 4 months ago and have driven about 10,000kms...or around 5,000miles. It lost all pedal feel after 3 weeks initially, and now i notice it slips up in the RPMs. Luckily its being replaced under warranty. but what would have caused this?
just a bad clutch? it was a Fenco brand. which alot of garages use. supposed to be pretty decent.
the garage also told me not to worry about breaking it in??
Whats a Cavalier?
heck, i can smoke a clutch in 2 minutes if i want, are you beating on it?
hardly beat on it. i run it up to redline in one gear only maybe once a week. never much over 3500-4000 ever. no spinning tires off the line either. no high speeds. really pretty average driving.
Whats a Cavalier?
Dosnt have much to do with high speed. Mostly has to do with how much you ride your clutch to smooth out your take off and gear shifting. Do you have lots of hills in your area?? Its hard to believe the clutch dosnt have a break in. Not saying its not possible but just dosnt sound safe. Was your flywheel surfaced?? ITs possible they could have taken to much off.

i know a guy thats rest his foot on his clutch, burnt it out in 3400 miles
^^^^^^^ Unknowingly riding the clutch is also something thats possible, havnt heard of some one doing that in almost 10 years.

Make sure all the flywheel and pressure plate bolts are tightened down real good. If you didnt use threadlock they could have backed out.
All clutches have to be broken in before usage unless it is a used one. They are idiots if its new and if its not well why would you buy a used one?
If you didnt break the clutch in properly before running it hard (breaking in like grandma in) then it could result in premature clutch wear.
Make sure that you bled the clutch.

More than likely the clutch is faulty OR the place didn't resurface the flywheel when it was in need. Basically you should always resurface the flywheel when replacing a friction disc and pressure plate, that way you'll have 3 flat surfaces that will bed in nicely and last a long time.
Also if your resting your foot on the clutch pedal, i don't see this causing any damage like such..hense a reason why the clutch pedal has freeplay. If by resting you push a good amount on the pedal, then yes you can cause the friction disc to wear..but thats only because your now slipping the clutch..so i wouldn't say this is resting you foot on the pedal. If anything resting your foot would wear out the slave.
Ne-waz if your not hard on the clutch and allowed it to break-in..the clutch is either faulty or flywheels wasn't resurfaced..those are the only 2 situation i see happening too cause such a thing
try slave cylinder
