Hey wus up everybody. I have a 2002 2200 w/ auto trans. I have been waitin to bulid up the motor and even boost it but am worried that if i do all that my trans will blow and then have a bulit/boosted cavy that i cant drive. So i was wondering if anyone knows what kind products are out there for auto trans. I plan on probably makin 300hp (just takin a guess). And what kind of trans do i have. So any advice , link, site, etc. would help alot.

300 HP is going to be a Major undertaking! It is possible with boost, but not easy!

As for which transmission you have, I see by your profile it is an automatic. There were two automatics that came with the 2200, the three speed (TH125C / 3T40) and the four speed (4T40E).

The TH125C is the strongest transmission that came in the 3rd gen Js, but is also the slowest in stock form. It can be built to be very quick with the right parts. This was the most plentiful FWD auto GM manufactered, behind many types of engines, as a result there are many gear ratios available to work with. The lowest ratios were in the smallest of cars, such as the FWD Pontiac LeMans and other GM and Isuzu FWD auto cars. There are atleast three different shift kits available and one racing quality rebuild kit.

The 4T40E is a newer trans and it has lower gear ratios in the final drive and in first gear, which will give you quicker intial acceleration (in stock form), but is limited as far as racing quality parts are concerned. The B&M Shift Plus is about the only performance item currently available for the 4T40E.

Bothh Transmissions use the same series of torque converters (TC). There are 14 different stall speeds made for the stock transmissions. The 4T40E being one of the higher stall speeds. You can get a custom built TC suited for you setup, but they can be a bit pricy. If you can afford to build a 300 HP 2200, the price will be insignificant.

The easiest way to tell the difference is by the shift indicator on your dash. If it says P R N D 2 1, then you have the three speed. If it says P R N D 3 2 1, then you have the four speed.

I also have a 2200 and a 4t40e trans all i have is a high stall torque converter and and a autotrans interceptor. My dyno numbers are in my sig. I have stage two axles i havent even used because stock has not given me a problem and i hope speedracer z does make a lsd ill be the first to buy it. I say build the motor and get a trans cooler and youll be set and a lsd if it comes out.
