Dude, I think it's your driving. There is no way that you got that many defective tranni's.
1983 Camaro Z28
well i realy dont think its my driving becase i was still breaking the motor in and driving like grandma when i lost second gear
and the frist one when when i was getting on the highway it started griding thrid and the last one the diff bearing are goin and it shakes the car all to hell wile cruzing
so driving like a granma most of the time i hope to god its not my driving becase were all screwed then i drive my cars to car shows most of the time with a grope and we just cruze and i go to the track on a once in a great while event
becase i do have a race car that i race evey weekend that is a honda that i beat the life out of and have never had a problem with it shifting or losing bearings in the diff so i realy dont think it is my driving if you get my drift

I agree. I have a 2001 Z24. 79k on it. It has roughly 175-200 track passes with drag radials. Only problem I have ever had was when I bent my shift fork (recently). I now do not have second gear. Truly if you have been through 4 trannies you are not driving easy. My 97 Z24 had about the same miles before I had any issues as well. The Getrag tranny is a good tranny. Many people have went 12's and 11's on stock tranny's.

Put it in gear before you let out the clutch.........
Lol, sorry about that. You have some bad luck.
I'm on my 3rd getrag, getting ready to put in the 4th (not dead yet, but getting crunchy downshifting to 2nd, and want to put in the TG LSD at the same time), and it's got alot to do with driving styles, as it's been proven they can handle alot of power.
15.3 @ 89.97mph, 14's on the way?
I put down 300+ torque at the wheels everyday on the street and on drag radials at the track, never had a problem with the tranny other than the input shaft bearing rattling a little bit. I'd say it's your driving thats causing it, no way you are going to get 4 bad trannies.

Yes it does have a lot to do with driving styles. You can thank your downshifting into 2nd for your crunchy 2nd gear. I have no idea why people downshift to save the brakes, it's retarded. How much time and money does changing the brakes cost? And how about the 2nd gear synchro? Downshift only to GO not to stop, and when you do downshift, double clutch. Your transmission will thank you. Downshifting to slow a car down wears the transmission much more than upshifting while accelerating so don't do it!!!

If you downshift and the rpms are higher than 3k its not good for the tranny. My tranny lasted my entire time learning to drive standard properly. I rode the clutch I downshifted rpms were at 4.5k, my clutch did go on me lol. I would really look into having a good mechanic take a look at it if its not your driving...
Maybe the shop you took it to did something wrong.
Or maybe they keep putting the same crappy unit into your car. I'd put some kind of identifying mark on the tranny and check to see that they weren't charging money for phantom replacements.

So far I've had the stock tranny opened and parts replaced 2X under warranty, so ya it's the same unit. I will be putting a different unit in when I do the LSD install, so we'll see how that holds up. I do downshift alot, but I like being in the proper gear to exit a corner before I enter it, I guess I should cut that out if I want the new one to last. I don't downshift to save brakes, but sometimes to assist them as the brakes suck.

right my frst wehnt in becase of third grear and then i put a lsd in it well when i got it back it made all kinds ok nois and the shortly after 2nd gear whent and im very decent with shifts there are a lot of people that can voch for this
im sick of this trany problem then this new one the diff is going i can shack the cv in the diff up and down and yes it is in all the way i dont realy think that has to do with my hifting the car last time i knew my shift forks dont tuch my diff or make gears fall out
<img src="http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/227/cave10wf.gif" />
but now that i am planning to reasembel my new trany i was wondering about finle gears do the 2.2 have a shorter gear i was wondering what is interchagable i have been looking at some part nubers at work dont have much free time there thugh
