Yes it will, you need the 5 speed from a 2.2.

Thats not his only option... He can take the transmission from any 88 and newer Jbody. It can have a 2.2, or a 2200, or a 2.8, or a 3.1. If i were him i'd go find one from a 2.8 or a 3.1 since they're a Getrag trans and the 2.2/2200 trans's are isuzu made transmissions... Not as strong. I believe some of the 95+ 2200/2.2 trans' are getrag and possibly geared better too.

thanks guys tons of help
another question tho will the drive shafts from the 2.8 or 3.1 fit in the stock location or will they have to be custom. i figure it would be cheaper and at parts source they got a replament warranty ( i am pre planning on breaking them)
thanks mike

I don't know about in a newer chassis. You may need custom axles.

Ok....

I need more info, like what year is the car this engine is going into?

If this was my project, and the Car is a 3rd Gen J, I would go with the '00+ Getrag from the 2200...... 3rd Gen J 5 speed axles, GM Rear mount, Turbo Tech Racing Front mount, Turbo Tech trans bushings, B&M shifter/Getrag shifter and cables, Spec Stage 3+ Clutch, Spec Flywheel...... The Getrag is just as strong as the NVG, and an easier swap.

...... but then again, thats just me...... what do I know about building cavaliers?

The only thing I don't think i agree with SpeedRacerZ is the fact of the Spec Clutch. I've seen them be hit or miss clutches.

Is the trans physically the same trans as the older getrags? Bc than i'd recommend a bully clutch or a Clutchmasters clutch like i have. I've seen spec clutches just blow apart from a 3400 before.

They've been working pretty good for me, but I have heard some stories of bad Spec clutches...... Clutchmasters, I've heard/seen more problems with them then any other clutch for the J-body...... Never heard to much either way about the Bully.

The older 2.3 NVG and the 00+ 2.4 Getrag use the same Flywheel/clutch combo...... so I would assume the 2200/60*V6's would share the same design (cant be 100% Positive w/o checking it out)
