My manual 5 speed Isuzu tranny suddenly dropped 3 gears when I was trying to back out of the snow the other day (yes, I was spinning the wheels). 2nd, 4th & reverse are just no longer there & the remaining 3 gears seem to have shifted downward (geographically speaking). I'm thinking linkage, but if anyone has any insights I would love to hear them!
Life without reverse is interesting, but I would like to be able to back out of parking spaces someday. lol

Mine just did the same thing, thought it was shifter cables, nope, the trans is all messed up.

well this just happened to me about 2 weeks ago and it was the cables the one that controls the forward and backward motion broke through the shealth and was not pushing. i jus went through the whole thing so if you need some help let me know i can take some pics if you need um

Hey, thx. I can use all the help I can get. It dropped 2 more gears last night so I am down to first only & back to driving the truck, which is waaay too thirsty.

Actually try replacing the shifter fork assembly bolted to the front of the transmission that is a good possibility something in there could be stuck it happened to be about 3 years ago .
I'd drain the trans and see if you find any synchro debre in the fluid.

Good news! It is fixed!
The shifter cable had slipped out of the bracket that holds it on the linkage end. We didn't notice before b/c it wasonly partly out, but once it was completely out, my husband noticed it right off & fixed it in like 2 minutes. Yay! I have gears!
