Automatic short shifter?

Is it possible to cut the automatic's @!#$fter to make it shorter? I've taken off my shift knob a couple times and I know there's the yellow? button in there that's inside the outer metal shaft. But I can't tell how far this goes down and what not. I'm getting another center console with the shifter included so I'm willing to try this out, anybody know anymore?

I shortened Mine to accomodate my CD player location with my old interior(CDs would hit shifter when in park)

I just disconected the botton, its just a cable at the bottom of the shift, unhook it and push it forward(ziptie if you want) then use a hacksaw to cut it as short as you need and use a manual shift knob!

done!

i dont see the point cause it makes a great armerest but make peope have done it.

pull off the handle and use a hacksaw to cut it 1/4 inch higher than you want it. then cut the outer black ring about a 1/4 inch. this way the button still works. reinstall handle. done

My car may run 18s, but I can do your taxes in 10 seconds flat.

I'm not doing this for performance reasons just for the low look, autos are really high up there and someone mentioned it do me and i realized that it really is high, and like i said i'm getting another shifter with the console im buying so if something goes wrong i can just go back.

I have a "manual style" automatic shift knob now, it doesn't have a button on it, the whole knob acts as the button. Along with a shift boot and e-brake boot. Everybody thinks it's a manual. But it still has the height of an auto.

I have the same thing...well, 'had'.
As mentioned, cut the same amount from the black and yellow, and everything will be fine. And I agree, it does get in the way of the CD player.

omg, that is even neater. not a fan of that particular T-handle, but hey... to each his own.

to go off topic a lil, i noticed how much i really love the 00+ radio location, anybody know if i go ahead and get a 00+ bezel for my 98 dash if i can just put the radio up in the hvac location and vice versa with hvac going down in the radio compartment...? anybody?

No, I forgot what thread it was or what site it was even on but it's not as simple as swapping bezels and hvac/radio locations. It's not easy, in fact it's hard enough to make me stray away from it. I think you need the entire 00+ dash. Because the bezel on the 95-99 (where the radio and hvac is) the face goes straight down, where on the 00+ the bottom kinda of bends into the dash so that cups in the cup holders won't hit the hvac knobs. See what I'm saying?

I have an 03 auto with the side button on the handle, is it any different shortening one of these and can you convert it to a top button release?
