My car has 6yrs/50,000 miles, and I'm going to go ahead and do a fluid and filter change. Are there any specific brands I should look for or stay away from? Should I also get a gasket? thx.

gm replacement parts, enough said.
gm genuwine fluid
gm genuwine filter
gm genuwine pan gasket
THEN take it somewhere (preferrably GM) but (tuffy, jiffy lube) etc will work and have them do a full fluid flush and install the new parts.
expensive, right at or around $200-220... (for the flush and parts)
or you could skimp out and buy the aftermarket replacement kit at say advance and or autozone or orielly's and change the filter and about half of the fluid yourself and save a ton.
i would do it the right way though man, props to you for keeping up on the matinence, not many ppl care to

I think teh filter and gasket will run you about about 15-20, and ya can't go wrong with Mobile1 fluids for ours cars, thats what the dealer is putting in there.
any other opinions? i heard mobil ATF is good, still not sure what other people use for gaskets and filters and stuff.

Unless you are going to do a complete flush of the system (I would not put any special fluid in). It will take about 8-10 quarts to do just a plan drop. If you have the system flushed it will take about 14-16 quarts. I like B&M Trick shift fluid. When you buy a filter kit it comes with a gasket, but I have always used the stock one over because it is a better gasket.

What is the difference in stock dexron fluid and something like B&M trick shift?
