hey all, it's time to upgrade my clutch and i just wanted to know what anybody is running for a clutch that bites fairly hard, but what im looking for is a streetable and has to be better than stock for sure. I've been looking around and my price range is around $500 canadian, so whoevers got something around that criteria, can you tell me about it and who makes it. Better than stock, bites pretty hard and is pretty easy on the street. Thanks!

Well, depends on just how much more "go fast" (from your registry) you're considering...whether just a little bit, or FI or nitrous or what. Seems to me unless you're looking to go crazy with boost or nitrous, a Spec Stage 1 clutch is a pretty decent option. Maybe go a Stage 2 just to give yourself a little bit more room to grow, although really, reading the power handling capability of them, even the Stage 1 should handle a pretty substantial increase in power. (Personally I think many people get more clutch than they really need, and cause undue stress on the tranny in the process...this seems to be more the case with those getting 4 or 6-puck clutches though, neither the SS1 or 2 is such a clutch.)

I don't yet have my Stage 1 installed in my '98 GT but I have the SS1 in my 2001 Eclipse GT...for normal driving it feels about like stock did, but when you get on it (launching, full throttle shifting) it grabs quite nicely. I've heard the same thing said from other people with other cars but also with the SS1.

Another advantage of the Spec clutches for our cars (I believe the 2.2 tranny is the same) is that they come with the TOB/slave cylinder whereas a lot of the others don't. Something to think about while shopping around too.

thanks, thats pretty much what i was looking for. I'd probably go with the spec stage 2, just in case i do go boosted but at the same time it's not a major jump from stage 1 and is still streetable without being too hard on the rest of the gear. In the near future for go fast (but will still be slow lol) are roller rockers and possibly a bigger TB and intake, but im not 100 certain on where im goin with it just yet. I appreciate your info, it was very helpful.
