Very nice.
How exactly do you modify the switches to get it to operate the shift solenoids.
What do you do about TCC lockup?
And what is done about line pressure?
full line pressure all the time is the way i have it i can do any withg that but it works so good full pressure. the only thing starting at -25 don't rev it the pump isn't realy happy but any car is like that.
the tcc i have going to a toggle switch on my shifter... i use it to split up the shifts so it becomes a 7 speed!
on the b&m quick silver shifter that i got has a plate that you can remouve for the nutrel and rev switches i modyfied it so it operates the solonoilds 4thg gear = on of 3rd off off 2nd off on 1st on on
my shifter is now P R N 4 3 2 1
a 4t40e can be changed to P R N 1 2 3 4 if desired
the way i have it set up there is engine breaking in each gear so its almost exactly like a standard tranny.
and you can actualy stall it if you engage the tcc switch
but its sooo much fun to drive its jsut like having a 5 speed but no stupid clutch to push, no missed gears and much better 60 foot times.
what i would like to know is how much are the dam mounts from Bates engineering?
also how many things am i going to loose like ac power steering?
i don't know why this kept such a secret by bates racing.
what ? losing ac and power steering ? um no
right now i'm doing a 3800 s/c sunfire swap and its going to have ac and power steering
there is always ways of uning some stock mounts in there. either from w body or from the older buick centuary type car
I'm curious of how to get a 4t65e into a 3rd gen car. I'd like to run one with my 3400. Just don't know what i'm going to need to do for axles and such. The manual shifting setup would surely avoid the need for the 700 dollar controller.
ok you need the out put shafts from that tranny your using . as for the axels get them from a beretta corisica grand am acheva with the 4t60e tranny lets say 1995 ... and you just have to swap out put shafts both if you are going to use the hd tranny and just the drivers side one if your using the non hd tranny.
you realy don't need the hd tranny i have been running 12's with my 4t65e non hd tranny for 2 years and did over 30 000 km
the hd tranny has a lower gear ratio of 3.08 ... the non hd trannys come with 3.23 3.08 2.93 and a few others
i have the 3.23 and it seams perfect its running 1750 rpm to go 100 kmph
and at the drags i go through the lights at 5300 @ 117 mph ... considering i'm shifting at 5000 with my torq monster its pretty well perfect.
the sprokets are changeable if you wish lower gear ratio.
Does it still use the factory auto trans mount?
haha your funny
right now i'm puting a 440 t4 in with a 3800 supercharged in a friends sunfire
so i used the 2 lower w body mounts and the upper doggie bones on top.
just gotta do some welding to get some thing to bolt too.
I'd like to see how you ran the A/C lines on your Sunfire. I toyed with the idea of keeping the A/C on my 'vert... but there just isn't room. I had to cut the rad support to fit the pullies...

I know... but it would be nice to have all the features the car came with... I'm trying to get the ABS and traction control to work... no luck yet. Plus other nice things... Gentex auto-dimming mirror from a Old Intrigue
Still working on the HUD too
You need to post up a how-to and explain exactly what you did to accomplish this. Sounds awesome.

@turboalero
its pretty dam easy and i pretty much explaned it
how ever its not for wussys any wussys here go away lol !
people who wish to keep abs and traction control that stuff just sucks so bad go buy the 850$ fast controler
this set up is for those who like manual trannys but sick of spining and not going any where. and not the average joe can't drive your car. its for the people who end up pumping the gas on thier car trying to get the tranny to shift at lower rpm to either save gas or get the rpms back down in to the torq. people who hate the stupid kick down that ends reving to high and not accelerating. with a bit of practice you can drive the car to have no shift shock what so ever or driving in a way where your trying to give some one whiplash chirping the tires.
after this modifacation and shimming of the accumulators the tranny behaves exactly like old skool trannys with full manual valve bodys.
in the spring i am going to set up the same in my camaro with a 4l60e and i wil take pictures of every step.
So, what specifically did you do to get it to run full pressure all the time?
I have the 4t65 from an '03 GTP, and can't get fluid pressure. Works fine manually shifted, but slips when selector is in 3 or D. And the code thrown is 1810 TFP Valve Switch Circuit.
This is the last thing holding me back on completing the 4t65 swap.
to get full pressure cut the blue white wire i believe its pin 5 but check to make sure if you disconect it while running you will her the pump start to whine a bit when cold. same as if you disconect the the plug completely.
here's some info on how to electronically shift through gears yourself....from a troubleshooting writeup by ATRA.
