i did a search and couldn't find exactly what i am looking for... and there are no stickies to reference...
I have a 2000 Z24 5 Speed. On my attempt to remove my shift assembly, i broke the linkage on the passenger side with the grey clip.
I went to the dealer and they said i have to order the whole assembly, and when i looked at the new one, it had the linkage i need... but its $150 bucks... (junk yards is out of the question... none of them around here have any 2000 + 5 speeds))
so if i am going to spend at least $150 bucks .... i'd like to go with something more "performance"...
So whats my aftermarket options, and more importantly, what are your opinions on the aftermarket options or if i should get the OEM replacement
i'm not looking for cables... its the whole shifter assembly.. the shifter, and the black "box" that bolts to the chassis.. i've looked up and found short throw shifters, but they dont include the black "box"...
so i guess i have to get it from the dealer then?
no...

they dont have a shift assembly option (or anything simular... and thats a used part.. which answers my question yes, i'd have to use the OEM box...
i think i'll go junk yard hopping one more time...
what do you all think of the B&M short shifter?
Yeah, you have to use the stock box on the bottom, but you can buy the short shifter and use that. As long as you didn't break the ends of the shift cable (which is what I thought by your original post). B&M is nice, I have the Fidanza one that's pretty much a B&M knock-off.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!
if you REALLY are wanting a whole new assembly, simply find a yard that has a cavalier 5spd with that year getrag and call them to see if they have the assembly, you dont necessarily need to plug that option in, odds are if they have a cav in the yard its still got the entire assembly, you really could look up any part for a 5spd car and find out.

well i double checked the yards today
i found a 95 LO Intake cam that im snagging thursday (when i bring reinforcements and more tools to pry the cam housing apart)... So that was good....
however, there were ZERO 00 - 05 5 speed J bodies. ahd like 50 million 95 - 99 5 speeds... =( so i bit the bullet and went to the dealer...
the assembly lists for $179.98, cost is $155.00, and my wholesale price was $128.36 ... i'm kinda glad i went brand new, when i pulled my assembly out, every o-ring was rotted and broken... and my originial shifter was super loose... and now that problem is solved
get yourself a b&m shifter now!!!
