anyone know what exactly i will need to do to swap my 3 speed auto out to a 5 speeed manual on my 97 sunfire? already got the tranny from the same year car, along with the shifter, and the clutch pedal assembly. what elsedo i need and what kind of modification am i gonna need to do? thank you in advance if you can help out.-matt

Pretty much. The ECU flash part is not as importnat. The car will run and drive off the auto ECU, but will have a Check engine light because no auto tranny being seen. I would also recommend getting a manual engine bay harness and swapping it out. If not then you will have to cut and splice some wires to use the auto harness.

i have another guy @ work telling me to swap to a 3800 SC and the 5 speed from the 2.4 will bolt up to it. is this true? if i can make that work, i am interested in doing it but i wouldnt iagine it bolting right up.

You will need to fab all the mounts for the 3800 swap, along with the PCM and wiring issues. Get a 3400 and swap that in, much easier swap if you want to goto a V6. See the V6 swap threads/sticky in the third gen forum for more info.

will the 2.4 trans work with ethier, or do i have to stick with auto, and use a 4t60-E?

actually, the 2.2 trans is the one that would mate to the v6 of your choice.

its not as easy as everyone thinks

ive decided to do a 2.4/5speed swap now. got my donor car from a guy at work pretty cheap. i will need a 1.5 inch hole saw for the clutch master, correct?
