alrighty guys so i had a ton of old isuzu trans out back in teh shed and we needed some more rpm out of the corner with the race car so we swapped around some gears and shafts and what not and ended up with a 3rd gear ratio of 1.45 to start with and now we have a 1.52 and a 3.58 final drive to start and now a 3.81 so we are figuring this should give us about 1000-1300 rpm more which will help a ton, we also took out the 5th gear parts to reduce wieght in the trans and make a spring to pop in out of reverse so it wont get stuck and a mechanical stop for the 5th shift shaft, now i just need to redo the valvetrain int eh race motor, anyt houghts/questions/ideas?

You're using the isuzu tranny aren't you? If you need more gear, the Z24s have a 3.94:1 FDR and some of the Isuzu FWD cars had a 4.10:1 FDR. IIRC, the Impulse had the 4.10 and a stronger diff.

Are you still running the flat tappet cam? Is it hydaulic or mechanical? If you need a new cam, PM me and we can work on something for you.

You can use on of the LSX valve springs (stock LS6, new L76/L92, one of Comp Cams Beehive or Isky Racing's "B-Hive" form springs). You'll need tomachine the spring pockets .090", to fit the 1.80" installed hight. With these springs, you can use the stock Locks and Retainers. If allowed get some stainless steel valves (which can be had in +1mm). As for the rocker arms, if allowed, get a set of roller rockers. If they're not allowed (like my local tracks), get a set of aftermarket SBC steel rockers (I like the Crane Nitro-Carb rockers). Plan accordingly for the lift totals and RPMs for what ratio you get. Using anything other than the stock rockers, you'll need the ARP 60*V6 studs, w/ the 10mm bottoms and 3/8" tops. If you're allowed poly locks w/ the stamped rockers, try the Crane Cool-Nuts for the 3/8" studs, they're good at directing the oil over the rocker balls. A set of good .080" chrome-moley 3/8" diameter pushrods wiil keep everything straight and strong.

This would give you a strong and reliable valve train and look stock.

ya i bought a set of teh stainless overive vlaves, 7mm stem we have to run flat tappet no roller and ya we are using teh isuzu but i didnt want the 4.10 this ratio should work just fine i have been counting gear teeth and dividing them so much this week haha
