Another 2.4 aluminum flywheel option...
Wednesday, January 14, 2009 6:44 PM
well guys.... ive been doing a little research on our 2.4 aluminum flywheel options...

in my experiences ive found the fidanza to be complete junk. the centers rip out of them almost all of the time and until now they were the only ones out there affordable to the average j enthusiast-around $300. Unorthodox had one available but at a huge cost-around $500 until recently. They decided the flywheel business wasn't doing well and did away with the program completely. HOWEVER... the company that was making them FOR Unorthodox, Aasco Motorsports, still has them available.

Go to Aasco to find more information.

I've been in contact with a seller on ebay that can get them for around $330. Same EXACT flywheel as the Unorthodox. and for those wondering about the quality, well... its there, paul tjpekes has been running one and had great luck with it. the center is still in-tact. the center as noted is also much beefier and differently designed than the junk fidanza.

only catch is, like the UR flywheel, its only for the isusu transmission, or 96-99 2.4 cars. the 00-02 getrags are not listed. however, they do custom flywheels so im sure getting one made isnt out of the question, especially considering they also make one for the 60 degree v6 cars AND the OHV boys.

^^i freakn loved my centerforce. although... what do you mean by 'stage 2'?

mines the dual friction, but its not the normal one you usually get. it has pucks on both sides, not just one.

all of the spec failures were when fidanza was making the 2.4 flywheel for Spec

Brad the point is SPEC / Fidanza flywheels for the LD9 break. The new SPECs should not....while Fidanza is still using the bad design....

Is there anyway to deteremine if you possibly have one of the bad batches??? I bought mine from an "org" member who bought it from RK Sport. I will have to inspect mine when I pull the motor out

yep, throw it in the car and give her hell. if the center rips apart within a month, you'll know.

No point is Fidanza flywheels do. No proof that Specs ones do or have.

at WHAT point did i EVER mention spec flywheels were bad? NOT ONCE.

i know spec did away with their partnersh!t with fidanza, i dont need to be told something i already knew over and over again.

All 3 of my spec flywheels (getrag) have held up just fine. Yes even on the turbo car...

All of the clutches i have seen have pucks(friction material) on both sides.

im assuming your talking about centerforce's....

my first dual friction has pucks on one side and a solid disk on the other. the 2nd one i got straight from centerforce had pucks on both sides.

So it had a ring of friction material on one side and pucks on the other? Weird.

I was just picturing friction material on one side and nothing on the other.

yeah... shoulda been more descriptive i guess. sorry.

ring of solid material (like stock) on one side and the other had pucks of friction material.

i thought it was real weird to, but i also thought i had something special in the dual pucked one i have now... LOL so you've seen others just like that aye? damn

I went with the SPEC flywheel and a bully stage 3 clutch. I heard they are better than the fidanza, but that is just word of mouth. I am getting all my parts installed in a month so as soon as spring comes and get it to the dyno I'll know how its holds up then. I'm hoping it works out, gonna keep my stock flywheel just in case.
