Z24 5 speed question
Tuesday, June 09, 2009 7:21 PM
I have a 2000 Z24 with a bad 2.4L LD9 in it that I am going to swap with a 2.2L ecotec. I was wondering if I needed to do anything to the tranny. I know I need a new bellhousing but didn't know if the tranny would bolt up some people have told me it should no problem and some said I need a new one. Any help would be great thanks!!

may as well swap the whole trans to be honest. the bellhousing is like half of the trans.

I just found a trans and clutch with 8k on it for 200 bucks. A friend of mine knows a guy that owns a junk yard. So I am just replacing my trans (98k on it) with this one then putting the ecotec 2.2L in. Hopefully I won't run into any problems. I got a upper engine mount for the ecotec, anything else I need?

anything else you need as in what?

PCM, PCM harness, exhaust manifold or header... there's a few things you need for the swap.

Well my father is a manager at a chevy dealership here and one of his mechanics is dead set that its immpossible to swap out my 2.4L twin cam with a 2.2L ecotec. Although I know many of you must have done so. I have a trans, the engine with harness and exhaust already hooked on to it. I also have the upper engine mount as I know its different then my 2.4L LD9. Is there a thread that has some major info about a LD9 to ecotec swap? I found one that talks about the 2.2L 2200 SFI but I have the LD9. My dad just says everything hooks up differently but I looked under the hood and it looks bascially the same. I know a little about cars but I am no where near as smart as you guys here at the org so I was just looking for some help. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
