building an Isuzu.

What would be the best/easiest way to build up and Isuzu Transmission? Without going to a Getrag. though I'm a fan of German engineering, I don't want to go through with that swap at this time, or ever for that matter.
Will also be doing a LSD, or is this not possible with these? I've heard way too many versions of nightmares and dreams that came true with the LSD in an Isuzu.

Please, Educate me on this stuff. I'm by no means an expert with anything transmission wise, all I know is I can lift and throw a broken Getrag.

Do an early spider gear swap and a Team Green LSD. Done.

I think it depends on what your plans are with the car and how many miles are on the tranny. You can swap the whole differential from an early 90's Isuzu ( just swap the ring gears ). If you do any racing, you could pull 3rd and 4th gears from a 2.2 Isuzu to make a close ratio setup. Check the bearings and syncros to see if they need to be replaced. Since I had mine apart anyway, I just put in new bearings and syncros

I am going to have to rebuild no matter what. . . thing started spewing tranny fluid all over the ground yesterday out of the driver axle.

That sounds like an axle seal issue. It never hurts to rebuild though.

I knew that part of it, but I'm going for a bit of higher power in the long run, including a turbo set up sometime for next 2011, and wanting to keep the Isuzu as well. but from all the horror stories I've heard of people with 200+ torque going through these trannys, I'm a little worried as my hp/Tq goals are quite a bit above the 200 mark. . .

Subscribed, this is relevant to my interests....

All I've really heard of for these transmissions is to swap parts from the early 90s storm or isuzu, and to buy an lsd insert. Thats what I'm planning on doing anyway, I would love to hear other options...

that's what I had heard too, but it's almost impossible to find ANY Isuzu's up here. . . .

i always had issues with syncros while beating on mine.

i installed a phatom grip LSD and i loved it. syncros always sucked though.

You want the synchros out of the early tranny as well. One piece, and much stronger. As for the gear swapping, this and this may help you.

Swap out the diffs and synchros from early 90's Isuzu, and it will be much stronger. You also have the option of getting the 4.11 gears from the GSi storm or Stylus, if you want taller gearing for your setup. If you want your original FDR, just swap the gears to the diff from the older car and you keep the same gearing.
