Hey all, so I have a 99 Cavalier Z24 that I am getting ready to do some upgrades to, but I would like to fix what is already wrong with it. The biggest problem is that it is extremely hard to move the shifter sideways. It has the stock 5 Speed manual and it refuses to return to its natural position between 3rd and 4th gear. It shifts fine between 1st and 2nd, and between 3rd and 4th, but I have to literally hit it to get it to move sideways. My dad and I took out the console and greased up all of the connections under there, and that didn't seem to help. What we did find that we THINK might be the problem is this:
(I know there is oil everywhere) We don't know what it is, or where to get one. Shift Linkage? Could that even be the problem? Bad shift cable? Or could it even be the transmission itself? Any help, or advice is appreciated. If you need a few more reference pictures, here you go:
