215-40-17 tires on 17" rims...

I searched the faq, but this size was not in there.

For 17" tires, 225/45/17 are recommended... would 215/40/17 really screw things up? I know the 40 series will cause the tires to look smaller... but I am on air, so I can compensate for the look...

Anyone know how to calculate how much this will throw my speedo off?

215/40 series just looks stupid.

also your tires will be thinner than your wheels and if you hit anything you will have a damaged rim.

with 225/45's u can curb check it with less worries

I'm having the same problem as you except I already bought my rims and these tires came mounted on them..................anyways Wild weasel has an amazing website (thanks weasel) Click Here just put in your stock tire (the original size that came from the factory) then the new size

According to his page your speedo will be 3.9% too fast meaning when your speedo says 60mph it will really be 57.6. This will also rack up miles faster on the odometer
