just wondering i got a set of goodyear feirce 225/40/18's and they have a treadwear of 380. just wondering how many miles that is roughly supposed to last.
my 440 rated BFG's are a said to last 60k miles i think, or 40k, cant remember, you can use that as a reference.
I would guess maybe 30 to 40k if your lucky.. thats a pretty low treadwear. The Skytracks we sell at Goodyear, which are the cheapest tires we have.. have a treadwear rating of like 400.. and they aren't a very high mileage tire.

ok cool well im not much of a hard driver so they should last a couple years, i just wanted to see how long they would last. i pussy foot around in my car for the most part and between that and being deployed everyother year they should last awhile. if anyone has these tires let me know how u like them. thanx guys!
i don't think treadwear rating is that important really.
my mom wasted like 800 bucks on a set of goodyears that were supposed to last 80K miles. not only was the ride and handling crap with the new tires, but they were pretty much bald after 50K miles. don't think my mom is out hot rodding her car to kill tires that fast.
on the same note, i found a set of cheap tires (can't even remember the brand) for my mother in law. like 300 bucks installed. they were 30-40k mile tires, she's had them on for almost 70K miles.
a lot of it comes down to how well you take care of your tires. check the tire pressure weekly to make sure its correct, rotate your tires when you change your oil, and keep your alignment in good condition. you can make tires last a lot longer by taking care of them.

The higher the treadwear rating #, the harder the rubber is.

tread wear ratings dont mean a lick of difference, especially if you are comparing tires in different brands or even different classes.
for example, at my work a certain Michelin has a lower tread wear rating than a certain BFG, but the Mich is rated for 130k km were the BFG is rated for 115K km. now even within the brand they dont mean anything because that same above BFG has a longer warranty but lower treadwear rating than a high performance BFG. that shouldnt be possible.
now the last michelin seminar i went to i was even told by theri reps that the tread wear ratings dont mean @!#$.
basically, what they will do is take a tire and run it till there is no useable tread left and use that for the base. the base rating could have been from a tire that was made 20 years ago. so then they take the tire you want to buy and run one of them down till there is no useable tread and multiply how much longer that one lasted over the base tire. if the tire lasts 4.2 times longer, it gets a treadwear rating of 420.
now one brands base tires could have lasted longer or less than the next brands. also there will be different base tires for tires in different categories such as performance all season,ultra-high performance, luxury touring, etc.
so in the end, tread wear doesnt mean a damn thing, its mostly on there to make the tire seem better to the consumer.
