Fitment Question
Saturday, December 09, 2006 6:22 AM
I just ordered new rims

they are 17 x 8 with 42 offset

What size tires would be best for me to use? I emailed the person I bought them from and he said most srt4 guys are using 235/45/17 would that be ok for me to use though?

I searched but I couldn't find anyone using exactly what I'm asking so I just wanted to be on the safe side and ask before I buy the wrong size tires

I would of gone with a 7" wide wheel with 215's, but since you got 8" wide hmm not sure if 225 would look better or the 235.... Let me think if this would rub or not.

Ok thanks, I was reading through posts and I saw people using 235s and they said they weren't rubbing but I think they had a different offset not sure how much that effects it though I don't know that much about tire sizes and what not

So long as you are not tryin' to tuck these rims with coils or bags I think you should be fine with 235's

17s you want either 215/45/17 or 225/45/17

235/45/17 is too big of a tire and not needed

Ok, let's say that the 215/45 is the correct size that he would want to run, but he is capable of running wider because of his off-set. Say he wants the 235's, the only thing he would need to do would be run a 235/40 because that should be about the same overall height as the 215/45. Generally if you go with a couple sizes wider, you want to go down a size on the height because the wider you go with the same height number it will get taller. So, it only makes sense to get a smaller number for the height.

The way I explained that may not make sense to others, but I know what I mean... lol...

Perfect example:

I was going to run 8" wide wheels on the front, and 10" wide wheels on the back, 17" tall wheels.

245/45/17 is the correct size for my car if I run an 8" wide wheel, so for those 10" wide wheels I would have had to run a 285/40. That happens to be the exact same height as the 245/45, or damn close anyway. Maybe that will help explain what I said up there.

and you are correct on that if however the tire she was getting was a 235/40/17. that tire would indeed be ok. slightly smaller side wall but a wider tire. however the tire size she was getting w/ the rims was 235/45/17 which is too big. if she wanted to keep the 235s she would have to get a 40 series tire. if she wanted to keep the 45 series tire she would need either the 215 or 225
